Bellis Not Well Received in Chi-town

The former Fox Chief-Met name is Amy Freeze? Great name! She'd be popular in Phoenix. It would launch a thousand morning show jokes.

I wonder if Bellis is experiencing the Sean Syndrome: big weather fish in a medium pond goes to the Big City and gets the beat-down.

It worked out for McLaughlin. If he would've stayed at 12News, he probably be a weekend anchor. Nothing's going to replace Cooney & Curtis anytime soon. He goes to NBC, gets some network time, comes back to AZ and works at KPHO. Does the weather thing, waiting for Kent Dana to retire, and moves in the anchor chair.

From the story, I don't think Bill should take it personally...that town is crazy in general, and they liked their cute weathergal. They probably would've booed Willard Scott!
They'll get over it...I'm pretty sure Bill has the chops to win 'em over. Bet they'll be screamin' "TELL US, BELLIS" by Xmas! ;D

It doesn't help that Fox Chicago is such a joke, ratings wise.

Or that, unlike most Fox early late newscasts (such an oxymoron, huh?), it gets a regular nightly beatdown from one of the best news operations in the country in WGN.

I remember trying to watch their late news after the All-Star Game last year (we were in town). Quite pitiful, not nearly as lively as 10. The Fox corporate imaging is so bland on that station —KSAZ I don't like graphics-wise, but at least the news content and anchors are decent.

It's mostly FOX32 not Bellis, who is pretty good. Also he's going head to head against WGN's Tom Skilling, who is easily the most respected weather personality in Chicago.

As for the booing, it's the guy thing. I recall seeing Suzanne Somers do her comeback special after getting fired off "Three's Company." It was at a naval base and she was in a tight top and pair of shorts. Of course she would get rave applause at a NAVAL BASE ;D, no matter what she was singing

Mark,

If it's a "guy" thing, why on earth did they let Amy Freeze go??? Heck, I would keep someone who attracts/gets applause the male viewers! At the end of the day, tv news is about popularity -- not necessarily who is the best news/sports/weather anchor. I've seen many stations assemble a very strong weather team and fail in the ratings. OTOH, other stations in the market assemble a team of beautiful weather anchors might succeed in the ratings.
