We all know Russ will be making his return shortly but where will it be?

No he won't, not in this market anyway. Save for sat radio.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Supreme Court of DFW radio, scrtr84, has spoken! Everyone quit mentioning Russ ever coming back to a DFW station because the wannabe radio God has ruled!

Wannabe radio god? Uhhh geee, thanks, but I don't think so. :)

I've already stated why he won't be returning to market #5. It has nothing to do with me wanting to be a radio god, and everything to do with common business sense. Anyone who has studied and earned a business degree, can tell you this.

Sad Day for ben and skin. They are losing their ace producer Eric. Rumor has it no one is replacing him, just random part time guys. Let's see what the impact is on show quality

Ace Producer? Dude is a Board-op that brings nothing to the table.... That show needs an experienced Producer in the WORST Way...

Well I see that the news has spread about Eric Marc :(

I guess that is one less punching bag some of you guys seem to like to hit.

Eric is leaving the station, and will not be returning to any other show at this time.

LIKE to hit? Uh, no. But there's a couple people (you?) who think the dude is the second coming. That all it takes is Eric MArc producing a show and dominant ratings are sure to follow.

And the last PPM proved that wrong.

He may be a nice guy. But as I've said before, he's a PRODUCER. A good one can help, a poor one can hurt a little, but I tune in for the jocks/show hosts, not the producers, board ops, traffic reporters, etc.

And impact on quality? Let's see, in the usual sports radio demo (M25-54) they were 22nd with a 1.3.

So you're telling me that without "ace producer" Eric there they might do WORSE in their demo? What, like 25th or 30th?

I don't think Eric helps or hurts ratings. I met this guy 2 years ago and in that 2 years I have found out what I truly want as a job once I get out of college and that is to go into radio.

I don't think Eric or anybody should be looked at as the second coming as you have posted some people see Eric as. I just saw someone who had a nice job, made a fun living, and didn't have much to complain about.

About the punching bag comment he is one of them:

Eric Marc
Russ Martin
Pugs
Kelly
Ben Rogers
Skin Wade
Tim Calishaw

I never called any 1 person out, but I implied that some people (different people each day) seem to like to pick apart all of the little things that people like the ones I mentioned do for a job. It still amazes me that even though people don't like listening to them, they are the ones who seem to listen the most.

I really hope you know what your getting into. Its sounds like you've been on the "outside looking in". You better be ready to accept the fact that you'll probably have to work two jobs, radio and one that pays the bills. Work crap shifts, overnights, odd shifts on the weekends, Friday and or Saturday night, be prepared to drop everything at a moments notice to fill in for someone that cant make their shift, sleep two hours here and there just to get by in the day because you worked graveyard and had to be at your "day job" right after your board shift that ends at 6am, stay late to help in promotions, remotes, screen calls, runs another board shift right after yours, and do production work when your done. That is what radio people do. Most of that is done by part-timers. Which you WILL be for quite some time before you ever get the chance at a salary. Which will be years down the road.

Look at this negative dude. You are completely right but if someone like him really wants to get in radio he will do it and probably enjoy it. I did most of what you said and had a blast doing it because radio is fun to be involved with no matter what you say.

I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just being REAL about radio.

Thanks board monkey.

I already work mostly till 3 in the morning, and I go to school full time. But I do appreciate you letting me know about most of that stuff.

:)

One more thing, forget about holidays. Oh they exist, but you wont be off for any of them. Everyone else will be though.

I will say this, I had a blast a lot of the time. Just be sure to work for a station you enjoy. When it becomes "just a job" its time to move on. Good Luck.

It is only going to get worse for anyone pursuing an off air role in talk radio. The support staff of board op, producer, assistant producer, has dwindled tremendously and is not considered an essential part of the show by upper management. I think more an more you'll start seeing one board op who also answers phone..unless a free intern shows up that day and the b.o will work at least two shows per shift. Guest booking will almost entirely consist of those with something to promote (if it hasn't started already) and the hosts will be solely responsible for show prep and content. The job market will go down and the quality of programming will also decline. This is just a matter of time. The only producer at the station will be on the local morning show and they along with an APD (if of course they're not the same person) be expected to help coordinate in some capacity all day long.

Just to be clear, I never said Eric was the "Second coming", I was merely making the point that the guy works very hard to make whatever show he Board opped or Produced sounded better having him at the steering wheel. he brought a lot to the table everyday, and everyone who worked with him appreciates him and will miss him. B & S still have Sybil as producer! So the Impact on quality was a reference to all the sound bites and audio he produced and collected on a daily basis.

The guy is a hard worker. I was just trying to open up some love for him on his way out, not get him crucified by some people, who don't know him or his situation.

But w/e. Do as you will.
