Ben FM SPF 1000

A Memorial Day Weekend countdown of the Top 1000 80's and 90's songs, voted on by whoever logged on the the station's Web site in the past month. I don't think I'very seen many 'Top 1000' countdown (most stations do 500 or under). Certainly, it will be no repeat songs from Friday through Monday. Any one know of a station anywhere that had a equal or larger number countdown?

It's not hard to do. I've been building a proof of concept station online for a format I call "Rewind" playing music from 1978-2001. That station's library has 1,800 songs. I'm sure anyone with half a bit of sense can pull together 1000 songs (even though Ben sounds like it's only playing about 800 to me).

But nobody with a "full bit" of sense would play over 1000 songs because you'd be playing lots of songs a few people liked but which many people disliked, many intensely.

WBEN, by the way, plays well under 800 songs. During the average week, less than 500 different titles get spins. The countdown is a gimmick during what is usually a low tune-in long weekend.

Some of the 1000 last year fit David's description of disliked--perhaps "forgotten" for a very good reason. But of course, they're mixed in alongside the favorites, so while it's a countdown, it's in name only, as one would expect.

At least as recently as a few years ago, Ben did the SPF countdown with 500 songs, so it ran twice from whenever they started it at that time.
