Ben Laurie

I had the pleasure of working with Ben at Metro. A very nice friendly gentleman. He didn't judge. In his eyes, you were a pro, and a member of the "radio family". Rest in peace, friend...

That's a good point. No 'young whipper-snappers" in Ben's world. He treated and respected everyone just the same, and welcomed the chance to teach you the trade, just for asking. Lots of folks in his position would be more concerned about self/job preservation or hesitant about giving up the torch, let alone passing it down.

I am deeply saddened by our loss of Ben Laurie. I first got to know Ben when I started at KLUV filling in for different shifts. I got to actually work with him while doing Ron Chapman's show when he was away. He was such an incredible guy. Always so cordial and would always go out of his way to make me feel part of the show. When Ron hired me to be his permanent fill-in in 2004, I got to work with Ben more often and we became good friends. Doing that morning show with the "Chapman Team" will always be a major highlight in my 23 years on the radio in Dallas-Ft.Worth, and I will cherish the memories fondly. I'll miss you Ben.

Just a reminder about the Memorial service for Ben Laurie this Sunday afternoon May 15th at 2PM at North Dallas Funeral Home... Speakers to include both Ron Chapman and Suzy Humphries, along with so many friends who admired and called Ben "Friend".

Just a thought

Ben and I would shoot the breeze when I would come in to metro on,sunday nights to take over the BAP traffic casts. I dont know how many know this but Ben was also a Veteran. I'm a military buff so we would talk about the wars and how the service has changed/evolved. He was a classy guy and at times would share some salty humor with me. Always enjoyed seein him on sunday nights.
