Ben Oldag RIP

Ben Oldag, long time Houston area broadcaster passed away. Ben worked on the air on many area radio stations such as KFRD, KPRC, KTRH, KSEV and KNTH.

Ben was a 50 year legend in radio started his career during the Korean Conflict and was a predominate voice on Armed Forces Radio in Post War Japan. Ben subsequently became a active member of the National Farm Broadcasters Association where his horticulture expertise gained him National acclaim. Ben spent his entire career hosting Farm and Garden Talk Shows in the Houston area with Radio Personalities such as the late Dewey Compton and noted Garden Show Host Bill Zak.

For the past few years, Dr. Oldag worked for Cedarcide Industries. I had the pleasure of working with him at both KFRD and KNTH. He will be missed.

Chuck,

Thank you for posting this. I had the pleasure of working with Ben at KFRD. I'm sorry to hear the news, and you're right Chuck, he will be missed.

I got to work with Ben and Bill Zak when I worked an early shift at KTRH, back in 1982. I think Ben was the one who instructed me on how to move a large Magnolia tree in my yard. The first item on the list was to establish a good relationship with a chiropractor and line up a doctor to do the hernia operation. Yep. The guy sure knew his stuff when it came to plant life. I'm a better man for having known him.
