Ben Shapiro expected to become new afternoon host on WLS AM

Robert Feder reported in his opening story in his Robservations today that Ben Shapiro is expected to become the new afternoon host on WLS AM https://www.robertfeder.com/2018/11/09/robservations-ben-shapiro-poised-afternoons-new-wls-lineup/ . And this is different that his show will also be syndicated as well, which I don't think that has ever happened before of WLS AM syndicating their afternoon show. Roe Conn with or without a partner as always done a local show, along with Steve Dahl that will be exiting from the afternoon show on December 21st. So far there is no word yet on when Ben Shapiro is expected to start his afternoon show, or where his show will be heard on syndication outside of Chicago.

Ben Shapiro's nationally syndicated afternoon show was announced in September. He is basically taking over the Michael Savage show.

From what I see, WLS will carry Shapiro's national show, which I believe is based in LA.

So how is that supposed to work with him doing the syndicated show from Los Angeles when Robert Feder wrote this in his news report

Confirmation of the deal could come Monday when Shapiro originates his podcast from WLS studios in Chicago.

Is his plan to move to Los Angeles? Well the show might have been announced that he was going to do a syndicated show, but this is only the first week that it has been reported that it will run on WLS AM. And is this really going to be a good idea, so once this show starts, correct me if I am wrong the only show on their week day schedule that will be a local show to Chicago, will be their morning show no matter who is hosting it. Robert federal is reporting that Mancow could come on board to host the morning show, with Big John Howell moving to some other role? What other role could he do, he has always been a radio host, whether solo or with a partner? And if that happens what happens to Ramblin' Ray Stevens? As Mancow with a couple of years between 2008-2010 where he did a show with Pat Cassaidy, he has been pretty much a solo radio host.

It appears that Shapiro is visiting the station on Monday, and will originate his podcast there on that day. But he does not live in Chicago, and I have seen nothing that says this will be a local Chicago show. The press release only talks about a national show, and it will only run for two hours. So Big John Howell could be used to fill in the rest of the time.

It's not unusual for national hosts to visit major affiliates, take pictures in the studio for the web site, meet some clients, and that sort of thing. I suspect that's what the Monday's visit is all about.

From what I see, WLS will carry Shapiro's national show, which I believe is based in LA.

I see from the article that it is being reported it being a 2 hour show that will air from 3:00-5:00 PM (central time), and WLS AM for as far as I am aware of as always had a 4 hour afternoon show that has mainly run from 2:00-6:00 expect for in 2017, when Bob Sirrott and Marriane Muricano did a 2 hour mid morning show, that pushed Rush Limabugh's show to a 1 hour tape delay, one of the few stations that did so, and then changed at the end of 2017 when fans claimed that his show must air live, which they canceled Bob Sirrot and Marriane Murciano's show, of where that had put Steve Dahl;s hours to 3:00-7:00 which made him happy not be heading home at 6 PM. So what will WLS two with the other 2 hour slots if their evening programming stays starting at 6 PM? As Rush Limbaugh's show ends at 2 PM (central time) and Ben's show doesn't start until 1 hour later, I would have assumed he would be doing a 4 hour show that would air locally from 2:00-6:00 PM, so I don't see this being a good fit. Will this mean if Mancow does return to WLS, that big John Howell will have to do a show from 2:00-3:00 and then 5:00-6:00 or air two different 1 hour shows?

I have never listened to a podcast of his show, so I don't know where he does his [podcast from, and since it is a podcast, could he pre-tape at least 1 show to air Monday, and come and visit WLS studios. And this also makes me question, why would he list the WLS studios if he isn't planning to do it from WLS studio to begin with, like how Jonathon Brandmeier did his syndicated 3 hour show, that only the first 2 hours aired on WLS. Couldn't WLS send executives to vist his to finalize the deal? And what if things fall through with Mancow returning to host mornings, and John Howell keeps his morning show, wouldn't it be much for him to come back to fill in for 2 hours that Ben is not on the air? I have looked at the press release, and yo are right now where does it mention where his show will originate from? Either case I do not see how this will be a good fit.

Feder says "Confirmation could come Monday." If it does, they might announce the full schedule.

It cold happen we have to see, but i would have thought the new schedule would be release sometime in December, just like how the new WLS schedule has come out during the months the last 2 years or so.

Feder may not know. But in his article, he refers to Shapiro's Daily Wire website, and that site is based in LA. So that's where he normally does his podcast.

Expect for this podcast,t which I don't know call it a special edition of his show, don't know about you but I don't plan to tune in this podcast on Monday to hear it, I haven't done it before and why start now.

He's on 5-6 AM on CummLess's FM talker WYAY (106.7) here in Atlanta. That's a bad time for him. Most people's brains are not working fast enough to keep up with him at that time. They'll probably tune out and listen to one of the AM talkers.

Yes he does speak very fast at any hour.

Here in Chicago, his show is on at 9:00-10:00 PM, which it will move to 2:00-3:00 behind the start of his 2 hour show.

He should s-l-o-w d-o-w-n when doing the spots. I'm sure the clients would appreciate that.
Otherwise the message gets lost in the cacophony of his monologue
