Bengals on 7 second d e l a y

To try and listen to the game while at the game is a thing of the past. The play is completely over before you get to hear the call of the game now. I hope CC reconsiders this policy. :-[

Talk to the FCC and see if they'll give CC a break in fines. How can you blame Clear Channel for doing responsible broadcasting? If they weren't on a delay and someone cursed on air, you'd be blasting CC for NOT being on a delay. Give it a rest. This "CC sucks no matter what they do" is getting tired.

They were on delay on both 1530 and 92.5? Maybe it was an oversight by one or both stations. Hopefully that won't be a problem during the regular season. 700 manages not to have a delay during Reds games, after all.

Exactly.

The FCC has started reviewing sports tapes for profanities that are picked up on the crowd or field mics. Browns games are on delay now too.

The blame falls on the AFA types and their mass form letter mailings, not stations that are having to run live sports on delay to protect their license.

No where did anyone say CC sucked for doing it. There just has to be a better way. Example, If they did not have 10 plus crowd mics or on the field mics there would be no way they could be fined for cursing unless the announcer does it. I agree its going to take a court case to show the FCC over steps its boundries on this. IMHO the broadcaster can not be held accountable for actions by the public durring live event if all reseanable actions are taken to prevent them from going over the air.

I wonder if ESPN will be fined for the F bomb droped durring the LLWS last week? That should be the true test of the FCC on live sporting events.

So KHD whats your thought on delay of games?

I personally think it should be a ten yard penalty.

But the WLW Reds games ARE delayed 7 seconds. At least the one game I went to last week.

It makes taking a radio to the game useless, the play is over before its even mentioned on the radio. And even if you just listen for clarifications, its still too distracting to bother with.

The brat who dropped the F-bomb on ESPN: It Doesn't matter. The FCC doesn't regulate material on cable television (THANK GOD!). For enjoyable television, watch BBC America when Chef Gordon Ramsey is on. Real language for real television.

It brings an all new meaning to "Gee Ward, weren't ya a little hard on the ol' beav' tonight?"

Local Guy,

You read my mind... I was getting ready to reply that, and the got to the seceond page and saw your post.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but everything live is a few seconds old these days. I can remember being at a remote while WEBN was broadcasting and talking to the engineer, and he explained that Wendy was talking during the music because there was a delay.

The point is that if you take a radio to a game its useless as I now think both the reds and bengals games are on delay.

Maybe its inevitable but that still doesn't make it annoying.

Just an idea...but your at the game, why do you a radio, don't you see what's going on? They broadcast the games for the people who cannot be there. I wasn't sure if anyone remembered that or not.

Disagree. Many people listen while at the game.

I would think most radio enthusiasts would take a radio to most sporting events. One example would be if a player was pulled from a game, all you know is what you see taking place, but there may be a reason that player is pulled. You'll more than likely hear the inside story on your radio. Too bad for the delay.

Radios are so small nowadays that its no big deal to bring one along. I rarely bring one but I'm sure many do and enjoy(ed) listening along to the play by play. And, as its been mentioned already, the radio is there typically for clarification of some sort of oddball play.

But even the clarification info is annoying to listen to when its interspersed with things that happened 7 seconds prior.

Go ahead and count off seven seconds......... Its longer than you'd think, especially while at a sporting event.
