Berks County Ratings?

So, any comments on Berks ratings that were released yesterday? I'm noticing that the board is rather quiet about the ratings...

Interesting...allacces shows Reading, PA ratings for "Fall 04", BUT, current calls like WRFF, WISX, WFKB.

that "is" interesting. in some ways, it looks like they'd be current. in other ways, fall of '04. if these were current, WRFF being so high would make sense because back in '04 it was sunny and i doubt reading liked sunny much. yet WYSP being so high? not since stern has been gone. that makes no sense. and WFKB being so low? i know their ratings are lackluster, but i thought they at least pulled 4th place. so i think these are in fact old ratings. but sunny 104.5 was that popular in reading? interesting. maybe Frank should become soft AC instead of trying to compete with Y-102. lol

Good grief. FRANK come on the air, stale and predictable. Same worn-out 300 songs every other classic hits station is playing.
B-O-R-I-N-G. Some station should try playing 300 other classic hits.

But what happend to Frank weren't their Portable People Meters numbers going to show they are the best thing since sliced bread? They had ppm numbers for May but not June. That is odd but looks like they got slammed in the New Reading book as well.

12+ #1 WRFY #4 WFKB
18-34 #1 WRFY #8 WFKB
25-54 #1 WRFY #3 WFKB
35-65 #1 WRFY #3 WFKB

WIOV and WEEU were in at #2 and #3 in a lot of places. The margin between WRFY and WFKB was very large in all demos. We have our listeners to thank, because they are the ones that really count to us.

Chuck,

Your numbers are correct. WRFY had a good book, congratulations. Why did it take you three days from your first post "Berks County Ratings" to give the results you've been dying to post?

Chuck, we only measure by one of those demos and those M-S dayparts, nobody cares. The number you are not considering is that it's been only one year since Frank's airstaff signed on. Diaries are unaided recall and WRFY, WIOV and WEEU have all been doing pretty much the same stuff for decades.

We've been lucky in some markets right away, but always with equal market signals or narrow demo formats like the new Bone. In Berks it may take time to overtake WRFY. But then again who knows there are new owners on the way. Hey, these numbers might even save your job and for that all of us a Frank are truly thankful.

Frank-ly though we are happy with the numbers we have, it's progress Fall to Spring. There are some bright spots too particularly in morning drive and men. We got beat in the Berks ratings, nobody died, nobody got fired, no format change, it's all good. In the meantime, Frank will just keep getting bettter one week at a time.

As to the PPM numbers they are inconsistent now but will grow. WBYN had 50% or more of their audience in Montgomery County. We haven't marketed in Bucks or Montgomery yet and we've still had luck. Not true of WRFY they have Berks, end of story.

Kindest Regards,
Rick Musselman

Thanks for your input Mr. Musselman. I feel honored to have a comment from someone so high up on the Nassau chain. I could comment on your statements, but we both know where that would end up. I stand behind our numbers. We are #1 in this market, end of story. WRFY, WIOV and WEEU know our listeners and can relate to them because we are from Berks County.

Good to see you reading the boards here. Best wishes to you and yours.

Dear Rick,

FRANK is cookiecutter. Dull. Hackneyed. Sleepy. Boring. It's WODE and WMGK with different call letters. I've listened. I've tuned out. Good luck.

amusing to see the big shots at Frank and Y go at it on a message board. are things that boring in the offices of both companies that they post on message boards? LOL it's all good. truth of the matter for everyone ... Y and Frank both leave a lot to be desired. let's start hearing more than the same 300 - 400 songs over and over and spice up the same old imaging. i am not affiliated with either station, but a casual observation and opinion is that Y is #1 by default. berks county isn't the most open to change. it's the culture. but once you get on the good side of the locals, they'll love you and treat you like family. sometimes it can take years. i hope Y's success doesn't make them not want to continue improving because in five years, the books could totally look different with frank on top. it all is dependent on who puts out the best product and to be honest, both stations are sounding pretty stale to me.

How do you bring someone in from the Philly market and put them in Boyertown and expect major market numbers? Or....why bring Las Vegas to Berks county???? Not even close......Frankly,the Mickey Mouse club sounds better than the morning show. You tried really hard to bring Y-102 programming AND sales to B-town, only to fail and regret treating things in such an unprofessional manner. Y-102 has had many changes, has had to pull themselves together when they were doubted....but if you have ever seen this group out together in public or for pleasure you will see they are a family...and blood will always be thicker than water. End of story. Number 1 for Classic Rock Y-102

you don't like the morning show? i think its great--the stuff they talk about is actualy interesting.

No way. I remember back in the first week or so they were on, doing the worn out schtick of throw out a scenario/question and have the folks call in responses. The question was something to the effect of "what is the most expensive thing you have ever stolen as an adult?" Ken and Jen (is that the morning duo? Or maybe it's Bonnie and Clyde) were gleefully sharing some of their escapades. Ken said something about stealing stuff from an electronics store. Jen contributed something about stealing clothing "by accident". She realized she had not paid when she got out to her car. She proceeded to foist some dopey excuse for not going back to pay because she was trying to get her children in the car. Then they went to the phones. It was radio at it's worst.

I suppose this reply will be deleted because of the less than rosey picture it portrays of 2 on-air personalities, but I called it the way I remember hearing it.

rick, i will give your pd credit of wfkb for a guy i heard sunday on the schuylkill expressway @ about 1100 pt guy sounded good. not totally ploshed yet but did a nice job relating to the audience. i will give credit when it is due. i think one day he may be a good ft jock. have a nice day!

Just curious.....by what criteria do you think Y102 sucks and frank is good? I have listened to Y102 for years and they just keep improving. they surely have a larger music library and during their request shows you can hear stuff that hardly ever gets played. they are behind all the rock shows that have come to town in the last couple years. shows I have seen...ZZ Top....Poison...Heart...George Thorogood...Inxs...and more.
I am going to see America and REO Speedwagon...Presented by Y102...how many shows has frank presented?
I also like the music mix better on Y102....I like hearing some new music...If Bob Seger has a new song, or the stones have something new...I can hear it on Y102...

Don't want to get in a pissing match with you...just curious about your statement.

I am rather new to this..so here goes....3 or 400 songs..? Not on Y102. I hear classic rock that Frank never plays.
It's more upbeat. And There is some good songs from the 90's and new stuff thats pretty good too.
and How can Y be number one by default? Frank has more billboards, more mailers to my home, a full 3 ratings periods to kick Y102's ass, and they have failed. Mainly because Franks music is boring, their jocks are from Las Vegas
Philly, N.J. etc. They program the thing the same as all their other properties...hell...type in "Frank FM " in your search engine and 3 or 4 other identical stations come up...same logo..same music..same everything. sorta makes frank's statement "Custom Made For Reading" rediculous! It's BS!

I wish them luck but hey need to blow the thing up!

Not for nuthin' - but there aren't too many formats within the Nassau holdings that last more than 3 years so that scenario is probably moot...
