Bernard McGuirk on WRKO?

Wasn't Bernard supposed to co-host with Finneran at one point after the 'incident' and RKO pulled the plug on that ?

What station does the "smart money" think that Imus will end up on in Boston? I hope it's a station we can hear out in Worcester county.

Bernie The Jerk ! He's the one who got Imus in trouble. I wouldn't want to have him on my station.

Bernie's not going back on with Imus? How about Charles?

It's reported that McCord is definitely part of the deal. I wouldn't be surprised if both Bernie and Lou also make the trip to Citadel.

What's always been interesting is that McCord was the head writer for the show and was responsible for some of the more outrageous, hilarious, and downright gross bits (think Wilford Brimley) that ever aired on the show, but has always managed to keep the reputation as the resident choir boy, and was kept at CBS after everyone else got the chop.

Regards,
TSB

McCord is back: of course. He had been with WNBC/66 since the early 70's. McGuirk is problematic, but he's capable of keeping himself under control. I don't think he's going to be given a chance ( I'll miss the Cardinal and Mayor Nagin) but some of his stuff was the funniest on radio.

I can think of only a few members of the Iman's regular guest rotation that won't come back. If he changes the act bringing more "balance" to the broadcast they are making a mistake. He should do the same show: real professionals know their limitations and don't make vile references, it's not difficult.

"Imus in the morn!" The Cardinal bit was great. I hadn't listened in a long time. Did Rob Bartlett still appear on there? He did some funny bits. And the performer who did Nixon, Wilford Brimley et al. That's when I loved Imus. I have a tape full of bits from those shows in the mid to late 90s.

D.R., your Howie post was well reasoned. Perhaps the Herald should hire you rather than that lame brain Heslam, who, when she isn't taking dictation from Howie, actually gives credence to Maloney's rantings. There is no doubt in my mind that Brian will maintain his perfect record and be wrong yet again. Imus will not appear on WRKO. In fact, I suspect that Lesser Media (nothing against them personally, just a cheap shot I couldn't resist after yet another Dewey beats Truman debacle), will be his final resting place once Howie comes to his senses and returns to WRKO. Peter Smyth will wipe the egg off his face and re-sign Imus because it is the best thing for his business.

(For those that don't know what I am talking about, Brian Maloney, quoted in Jessica Heslam's piece, writes not only "The Radio Equalizer", but also "SaveWRKO", an anti-Entercom gripefest that he uses as an outlet to spew his hatred for a company that he worked for in Seattle and parted with on poor terms. Take a look at the blog (you're welcome for the free plug, Brian) and judge for yourself - what kind of writer takes a quote from someone this biased and doesn't put it in context? Lazy, lazy, Jessica - I'd suggest that she should think for herself, but I am not sure she's capable.)

I have no idea where McGuirk will end up in all this, but a solo gig on WRKO doesn't seem likely to me. Going forward, assuming Howie's eventual return, WRKO has Finneran, who finally passed Scotto's #'s year over year in A25-54, though along with 10-12, it still needs work. Rush 12-3 heading into an election cycle should be great radio (whether we agree with him or not), Howie in the afternoon, performing solidly, and the World Champion Boston Red Sox for six months a year.

And which station is that? Oh right. :p

Brian just figured it'd be interesting to write about a station that hired a felon (no, not WPRO...)

>>Lesser Media

Or, Greater Mediocrity. Nice country station though

>>will be his final resting place

Brian filling in for Graham? :)
