Bernie was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer earlier this year and was receiving aggressive treatment. The cancer unfortunately spread to other parts of his body.
But now as if to crush any remaining hope he had left, his appendix ruptured last Thursday.
He survived only due to an excellent Doctor, who saved his life.
This is really cruel news, you may not agree with his politics, his rough around the edge talk, but i do not wish this on anyone.
If you're post 50 pls go for a thorough cancer screening.
(A little known fact, most of Imus' interview questions and many joke segments were written by McMguirk)

I think he should retire and spend whatever remaining time he has with his family. Looks like WABC has introduced Andrew Giuliani and is priming him to take over.

Guy I grew up with died of a burst appendix.

Amazing that what seems like such a small thing can kill a person.

My appendix was removed when I was a small child. It nearly burst before it was removed. My mom told me that it made me very ill.

This seems to be a common surgery for children, along with their tonsils being removed.

The guy I know was in his early 50's when he died from a burst appendix. Its just so uncommon to hear of today with all the advances in medical science.

Then again, my wife almost died from hemorrhaging after giving birth to our 2nd child, which again, is such a common thing (childbirth) that happens today that fatalities from it (in non-3rd world countries) is virtually unheard of.

That’s a really scary thing, but you’re right, thankfully medicine has advanced where more lives can be saved even though appendicitis is way less common in older adults.

Had my appendix out as a kid. No danger of bursting, it just kept getting inflamed. They put me under with ether. Gawd, what an awful experience.

My appendix got yanked in 1986 when I went in for gall bladder surgery. They were poking around and saw that it was starting to get inflamed so they took it out. Said otherwise I'd be back in the hospital in a about a year having it removed. Glad they didn't take out any other malfunctioning parts otherwise I'd only have my spleen left. Well '86 was when most of my parts decided to start crapping out; figured if my gallbladder could do it, so could they.

I didn't catch the whole conversation today, but Sid had O'Reilly on as a guest about 9:15 am today, and they were practically referring to Bernie in the past tense. I wonder if he is in hospice or something? When prostate cancer isn't detected until it spreads, the outlook is usually pretty grim. A relative of mine was diangosed after it had already spread and lived 11 months thereafter.

Any word on how Bernie's doing? I haven't heard anything recently.

They have almost completely stopped talking about Bernie save for the very end when Sid signs off with 'Peace' and adds 'prayers for Bernie'.
Also recently Sid said he doubts if Bernie ever comes back to radio.
I think he is alive, but in very bad shape. Hope he makes it.

What a shame, Sid & Bernie were great together. I wonder if Sid will remain solo going fwd? I'm not a big fan the "solo Sid" idea, but not sure who would be a good fit to work with him. Chemistry between co-hosts is very important, I remember a few years ago when Len Berman was teamed with Todd Schnitt for the WOR morning show, and their personal dislike of one another was so obvious it was almost painful.

I watched a couple of Bernie's Imus bits on YouTube this morning. Bernie was quite a talent. RIP.

Sid was on this morning and was really shattered. He did mention the Bernie and Sid show in the past tense.
I am sure there was a key-man clause ,the lack of whom would make the contract null and void.
So Sid is basically free to part ways with WABC now or stick around with another partner of his choice or solo.
But I doubt he'll leave John like that.

But back to Bernie - poor guy suffered a lot before it ended.

Billed as the brains of the WABC "brains and muscle" team of Bernie andamp; Sid in the Morning, Bernard McGuirk died last evening, following a bout with prostate cancer. He was just a few weeks shy of his 65th birthday. McGuirk, who had been morning co-host with Sid Rosenberg since April, 2018 helped
