Bernice Corpuz

So it wasn’t my imagination; I knew there was a voice missing from the WBZ Newsradio 1030 airwaves, and it turned out to be that of Bernice Corpuz. A little digging revealed she is now known as Bernice Freedman and is Director of Media Relations at Massport. For the record, Bernice was an excellent on-air reporter whom I wilI miss, along with two other equally fine reporters, Karen Twomey and, of course, Lana Jones.

She is the ASSISTANT director.

Karen Twomey has been gone for 3 years now? There is life after radio, anyone that can get into a better gig is stupid not to take it, especially where "you are only as good as your last book"

Do you lament Donna Morrisey leaving WLVI to work for the Archdiocese of Boston, and then the Red Cross?

If someone offers you a gig at Massport, you take it. Can you say good pay, health insurance ( not great but it is good enough) , and a PENSION !!!!

Lana's situation was tragic.

Trust me I did not see myself ending up at the Commonwealth of MA, but when I retired at 49 with health insurance for life, and a monthly kiss in the mail, while I saw the radio business being decimated, it seemed like a pretty good decision.

Your point seems to be that people are free to follow the money (and security). Fine; point taken.

But it's WBZ we're talking about. Changes there under CBS Radio ownership were spare, and, before the darts start coming my way, I and I suspect a few more of us aging geezers were fine with that. iHeart is going to make changes; that's inevitable. But anytime a change is detected - some immediately, others a bit later, like this one about Bernice - I have to wonder. I listen to WBZ on my clock radio, another radio in the house, my car radio, and I get used to hearing certain voices, and the news, traffic, weather, sports, features delivered a certain way. I don't like every change I hear, and while I can't do anything about it, I do hope I am free to express my sentiments.
