He owned what was Z98/Memphis in the late 80's. (Now the Max)
He also owned stations in Mobile and Birmingham, and first put
Mark and Brian together before they went to Los Angeles.
Bernie has passed away. www.allaccess.com

He still owned and managed WABB/Mobile until his death.

Shame. One of the last true local operators still out there. He had owned Mobile since 1959, turning down countless offers on his property.

WABB's calls, when applied for, in the post-WWII era were said to mean, "Alabama's Best Broadcasters." By all accounts, Dittman always was.

Bernie Dittman = Balls!!

anyone who turns down multi-million dollar deals after multi-million dollar deals because he knew he was a thorn in the side of corporate radio, gets my vote as having the biggest set in the radio world! Bernie was one of the last of a dying breed of owners who had so much passion for radio that no one could take it away from him(or buy it)

some people might say he was a bitter old man...not i!....i say he was awesome and glad to say i've had the pleasure of meeting such a determined individual.

R.I.P. Bernie
