His obit and pic are in the TP today 9/12. Another N.O. longtimer in radio gone.

How sad.
I remember when he was on with Hap and Buddy.
Seemed like such a nice man...
Prayers to his family.

Just found out about Bernie's passing. As I wrote to a friend in New Orleans, Bernie was there for me in my first few months at WWL, always with a big smile and sense of humor. Took me under his wing, offering help to a newcomer on how to pronounce those words peculiar to the city, gave me a word of encouragement at just the right time and the advice of an older borther. Working the afternoon drive shift, I got to watch Bernie skillfully handle talent from all walks of life, and skillfully. (Bob Christopher, Buddy D, Andre Trevigne, David Tyree and J.R.) I worked just feet apart from Bernie for years, and it was both a pleasure and a blessing.

Here's to Bernie Lara: Broadcaster, Husband, Father, Friend and Gentleman.

Unfortunately, I lost the tape of what I'm about to describe...but my favorite memory of Bernie Lara was when Bob Del Giorno returned to WWL in 1993 and he & Bernie decided to do a live Christmas Eve show from 7-10PM.
I had taped it because Dr. Morgus was going to be a special guest and after Morgus came on Bernie & Bob talked about Christmas growing up, it really was a nice moment in radio history.
I also remember after Bernie left WWL...on the air he stopped by to see Buddy at his post-game show after the Saints first playoff win in 2000.
He had a really dynamic voice and his presence not with us anymore is really saddening.
Here's to a great personality in Bernie Lara!
