best $86 you'll ever spend

So my 6 month Sirius trial membership is up an I can tell you without a doubt that once you have Sirius you can't go back to just terrestrial radio. Unfortunately it's too expensive but I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Before your membership is up for renewal, call customer service and tell them that your friend got 50% off for one year and you want the same thing. They will honor that with no questions asked. With tax and fees it comes out to $100 but life is good again in Columbus! ;D

I would get satellite, if the audio quality wasn't so horrible. That's the biggest problem.. they are trying to pipe to many channels down to small of a stream. If they got rid of some of the garbage and focused on providing enough bandwidth for atleast a 64kb AAC stream for every channel, then I would give it a try. Until then, it's just another choice...

I believe Sirius/XM uses a dynamic allocation of bandwidth between channels, so some channels at times do sound better than others but overall Sirius/XM bit-starves their programming to cram in as many channels as possible with their limited bandwidth (kinda like HD radio does with HD-2, HD-3 and in some areas HD-4)..

I'll take my iPhone plugged into an AUX input tuned to a 64kbps HE-AAC v2 stream over XM any day.

+4 on the audio compression. I'm in a 3-month trial with a new car and would not pay for it. Sounds terrible... and I've heard it on aftermarket stereos too. Artifact-city.

Plus the programming is not that much better than what we have here. Their channels are so unfocused and they try to have such a weird niche that it sounds horrible.

I don't listen to 95% of their channels and I especially don't listen to anything on there that you can hear on any radio station here. Between BPM, Electric Area, Backspin, and Seriously Sinatra I'm good. I'll give it a year and see if I still like it or not.

I get a pretty good deal. At least for the past couple of years. 6 months for $32 plus tax. In regards to listening to their stations, I think they could drop some. I listen to BPM, Electric Area mostly on it. I know they are working to change the format on BPM this year. So we will have to stay tuned to that to see what happens. Dawg4life, it would be nice if Columbus has this type of music 24 hours a day. Not sure if we would ever see that happen. Maybe you and I should consider starting up a FM station that has this format. ;D
