Best and Worst of 2009

This should be fun. As the end of the year is near, lets list out choices for best and worst radio moves of 2009. I will start

Worst...so many to choose from..But my vote is for WCCC letting Sebastion go.

Best...so few to choose from. In fact until last week this would be blank, but I'll vote for WELI bringing back Vinne P.

Worst is what WCCC replaced Sebastian with. Picozzi and Holden are like a couple of 16-year-old high school kids with their sophomoric humor. It's pathetic. Mary is still great.

Red Wolf taking over 104.1 was also really bad as they cut the playlist down drastically and started putting on songs that have no business being on a modern rock station.

Best was, um...uh...no idea.

Worst: 102.9 The Big D eliminating their overnight jock. (I'd rather hear a VT'd jock than an automated jukebox) and Marlin Broadcasting for putting Don Imus on a Classical Station 1290 Beethoven Radio.

Best: HOT 93.7 for remaining status quo, while there have been cuts at sister CBS stations in Hartford and Red Wolf Broadcasting's new Tropical formatted FM station - LaBomba 97.5 (now if only there was a 2nd analog frequency available to make the signal go out further).

Best: The fun ideas Grahame Winters has come up with for her nightly show on DRC-FM: '80s at 8, top 9 at 9 and twin spins at 10 all allow songs that you usually don't hear to get a spin. Even if the whole thing is voicetracked, it's still entertaining.

Worst: WCCC's dropping of its classical HD-2 signal to save money. The AM signal at 1290 is useless. Hopefully, Connecticut Public Radio (WPKT in particular) will decide to start using its HD-2 and HD-3 signals in the coming year and put classical on one of them.

Seriously, I would say the expansion of Jim Vicevich's show on WTIC to three hours, but I believe that started last year, actually?

I still find it amazing how well WTIC does while it's counterpart in Philly struggles.

Which counterpart? WPHT or KYW?

WPHT. I've listened to KYW, it sounds okay tho I've heard rumors that they run taped newscasts in part on the overnightds.

WPHT and KYW are competitors in the same format. One or both of them are going to struggle, because they're splitting the same slice of pie. WTIC has no format competition in its market, other than NPR.

KYW is news and 'PHT is talk, how is that the same format? Guess we've gone on a tangent here!

The Best----Hot 93.7 is still GREAT. Pirate stations popping up in CT.

The Worst---Kiss 95.7 is still alive.

Give me a pirate station that's doing something different. No more Spanish Religion. We've got to legal stations doing that - Radio Cantico Nuevo on the AM. And Radio Avivamiento on the FM.

To or TWO?
