Best and Worst Radio Ads

My favorites: Geico, Budweiser and Jimmy Johns

Worst: Columbus Suzuki, Midwest Center for Stress, Fix it Crew and 3C Body Shop

Give me your lists of best and worst spots. Who am I forgetting? What about best and worst all time? Buddy's Carpet? 895-1111? Let's see what you guys think.

(Ok....I'm just tired of reading about the Blitz.)

Worst: Sun TV, World Furniture. The old Certified "Think About It" campaign
Best: Are there any?

worst ads--HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANY AD involving Fred Ricart playing his guitar and singing "WERE DEELIN!!!"

If we are going national--"Sunspotter" -- "Tell them about the discount, Harry" is the worst....close runner up is the Tanya Roberts ad for the Vegas time-shares -err, vacation destinations where the talk show host has to act like Tanya is a best friend....Locally, Jeff Rimer's voice annoys me on Blue Jacket ads and I dont like the Dennis Auto ads...

the best, Budweiser's Real Men of Genius (its the only time i will ever stop flipping to hear a commercial)

The worst, computer training dot com, ANY car commercial, Dreamgirls (the one for the strip club with the CHEESIEST sounding voice guy ever!)

Even cheesier than the guy who does/did ZZ Boots? That would be pretty hard to do!

There should be a rule in Columbus (and everywhere) that no car dealer can sell cars with a brand name they can't properly pronounce in their spots. Local examples include some former and current dealers, such as Dick Ruhl "Fudd", Germain "Tota", Bob McDorman "Shivvolay", whichever dealer it was that sold "Murcrees," and there used to be a dealer in the north end that sold "ohzmobiles."

Another pet peeve is the local yocals who pronounce Morse Rd. as "Morris Rd." There is a Morris Rd. in Columbus, but it isn't even close to Morse Rd. And let's not forget the locals who can't even say Columbus, but end up with Clumbus.

By the way, when Buddy of Buddy's Carpet was just getting well known on his spots and everyone was talking about him, I heard that Z93/Dayton had him come in on April 1 and do an hour of morning drive as their new morning guy! I'll bet that blew the lid off the Dayton market, and I wish I had an aircheck of it!

yeah...we no longer have a buddy in the carpet business.....buddy pulled out of ne ohio last year closing several stores....

Wow.. That brings back a memory.. I was corrected not to say 'MORSE ROAD' and was told to remember it was MORE-ES (Mor'se in a weird way) ROAD.. We have the same thing in one of our regional hubs within our TV market here.. It's spelled FREDERICA STREET...But locals say FRED 'silent E' REE-CA STREET.. Robards, KY is not pronounced Rob-Ards, KY, but ROW-BARDS, KY.... Advance, MO is pronounced ADD-Vance...New Madrid, MO is NU-MAD-RID, not New Ma'Drid.... :p

I just did a new spec spot for Dream Girls. No disrespect to JD from WIOT in Toledo, but it's a TOTAL 180 from the spot that's running now. Completely different! I love WIOT, grew up in Toledo, love the station, and Sid Sidell does a great job with the imaging too. Don't know if the guys will go for it, I know they love what JD does, but this one puts the listeners inside the club. Pretty trippy! I'll post it here if they don't go for it.

I had a agency read for Ratt and Poison, In concert back in the '86-'87 era.. "RATT POISON".. You can buy that at the hardware store or supermarket, right??? Good thing I didn't do a Greatful Dead spot.. "Is it 'DEAD-LIVE', or 'LIVE-DEAD'?".... Maybe it's "DEAD-DEAD"????

It took me awhile to remember which auto dealer made the worst ads because I hadn't heard one in awhile (thankfully) and then yesterday back on the air, there he was... Dennis Hyundai. An American Idol spinoff with a white guy doing a very bad impression of Randy. This guy thinks he can take anything that's "hip" at the time and make it his own. They are just HORRIBLE. I mean show a little creativity, don't just steal what's hot at the time.

Awful.

I'll admit to getting a kick out of the "free credit report" ads where the guy is singing about having to leave the lot in a used subcompact.

It's not a local ad, but for me this is no contest.  It's the "Yeeuuuhhh, MSN Money in Da Housssse, Hohneeeeey" rap.  It's beyond bad.  I have never, ever found an ad on radio or TV so repulsive.  Never.  Ever.  I'd MUCH rather hear fingernails screeching on a chalkboard.  I be doublin' what I be makin 9 to 5.  Yechh, yechh, yechh!!!  I'm definitely boycotting MSN until that ad finally dies.  Somebody kill it, please!!

I absolutely hate those "screamer ads" like those hideous American Freight ads. Whoever does that ad sounds like he just sat down on a bear trap and left some parts behind when he got up. I also despise those Billy Mays ads for the same reason.
