Best areas for reception

Hey everyone! I’m planning a trip along the East Coast this coming September, with a few days in DC and a few in Boston (and utilizing Amtrak in between). I have a pocket sized Sangean HDR-14 I intend to bring and do some scans, as well as an Eton Elite Executive I intend to purchase before my trip.

Where are the best areas around the city to do FM and AM scans? Over the years, I know I’ve seen some posts on RD regarding reception in Downtown not exactly being the greatest (including some of the 128 signals), but wanted to see what’s worked for you. (I will be using public transit to get around, and will only have just two full days in Boston.)

It has been my experience that you need to be just outside of Downtown and it's immediate vicinity. A couple of miles North, or more specifically South should get better DXing.

The communities alongside Interstate 95/495 seem to do well for some DX reception. Also try a few communities that are in-between two or more major transmitter locations, that helps with a good radio.
