I am speaking of analog FM/AM, but include HD if you wish since there seems to be a big difference in HD quality. I'll start by stating my least favorite analog FM engineering - Jack Fm San Antonio and Austin's Kiss Fm.

Mine would have to be KHHL 103.1, with the phone line. Jack ranks a close second in terms of FM, last time I heard KHFI it was way too compressed.
In terms of AM, at least here in San Antonio, my least favorite would have to be Star 810 AM. It sounds distorted.

My favorite over here in San Antonio might be KAHL 103.7, even though the format's not my style. It's clean.

I have always marveled at the clear and transparent sound of KMFA. I wish all FM stations used such clean and honest processing (or lack of processing).

The best sound to me is BobFM in Austin. The least would be KHFI, And The beat in Austin, The beat sounds distorted.

KSYM 90.1, KRTU 91.7, and K279AB 103.7 all sound pretty clean here in San Antonio. Least clean are KZLV 91.3, K272EK 102.3, and KJXK 102.7. K272EK is too heavy on the bass, while KZLV and KJXK are way too limited/squashed.

KZLV and KJXK have fixed their audio along with the translator. :)

I noticed the same thing.

If only all stations sounded as clean as 103.7/105.9.

very few are in analog. it's digital now and most stations don't have a clue how to process digital. most are grunged out. too much clipping.
