best breaks?

What is the best break you've heard in Okc recently? And who was it? Anything is fair game.

I'll start: Chad Fish on KRXO coming out of Nazereth "Hair of the dog" - He made a quick comment that "it was a good thing the band called it that instead of what they actually say in the song because otherwise his parents wouldn't have let him buy the record back in the day", presumably because it would have been printed on the sleeve.

Not earth-shattering, but I found it real and relatable.

Chad is very talented guy. For those that don't know he was part of the original KRXO morning team with Lisa M. right from the beginning. Like many, he's doing something else for a living and still having fun with radio on the side.

Isn't it interesting how many of the original guys still are around KRXO these days?

THE BEST BREAKS!!

It's when the automation or satellite goes silent for 20 minutes and no one notices.

That's some damn good radio!

Over 130 looks at this post and not one answer to my question. So, even people interested in radio don't listen to what jocks say...that's sad. Or maybe not enough jocks are saying something worth remembering.

Either way, I guess I'll make my questions less challenging in the future.

You can go back to your apathy now, sorry I tried to wake you. :p

Maybe if it was not for these huge radio company's our breaks would not be watered down to just being a "liner jock". Shows like Drew and Kaci are pretty good and creative and Stacy, Ron, and Phil.

I wouldn't be apathetic if I hadn't been beaten into submission by TPTB for two decades. Obviously, a flicker of hope still exists, since I keep coming here occasionally, hoping for good news. But to be pragmatic and realistic about it, I've moved on to other pursuits where I won't be so consistently discouraged and deflated.

One just can only hope some day the big drizzling corporate operators will crash and burn selling off some properies in this market-size to the local owner-operator type ownership that actually gives a crap about how their station and jocks sound. Until then it's just more of liner jock radio. Sad but true...

KRXO's Chad Fish is really smooth. Ronnie Kaye, KOMA is always great. The other day, in a backsell, matter of factly, he said, "We found out how to tame a wildcat! Find out what he's wild about and GIVE IT TO HIM!" And then he went on. He is better than ever. I would put Ronnie Kaye up against any jock! He is that good.

Ronnie is really the last of the old guard DJ's still putting out 125 percent every show. The man is a true talent. He has never been complacent or too lazy to prep. Every day he's on the air he's putting everything he has into the show. Ronnie is pretty unique in that he went from being a middle-of-the-pack jock back in the day to actually getting better and better and better in his game until, when he is nearly the last of the old style jocks still going he is truely the best.

One side note about Ronnie that is an interesting observation. He ALWAYS airchecks his breaks so he can go back and listen right after he did the break to see how it actually sounded on the air. That way he knows what to do again in another form and what not to bother with, etc. Maybe that's one reason why he's only got better and better over time.

No doubt about it, Ronnie has always been one of the best!

I also think Dave Kelso from KRXO is pretty darn good. The guy is fantastic with artist info! He's a friggin encycledpedia.

I agree with watercooler about Stacy, Ron and Phil on BOB too. I think that they are just about the best morning show in OKC (although the ratings sure don't reflect that). It's soooo much better than the show Ron was doing after Lisa left. In fact it's better than when Lisa was there IMHO.

I Have not listened to Drew and Kaci enough to make a comment on way or another.

What about past morning shows? Like TJ and Tooker? or MO? and Shannon and the Eggman? Rocket and Theresa? Bob and Josh? (whatever happened to them anyway?)

I really miss the OLD Shannon and the Eggman Show... back when they were funny. Quite honestly I think that show was one of the very best to ever roll though Oklahoma City. After Mark turned it into the Rush Wantabe show it was game-over though. What a shame.

Anyone remember the infamous vibrator bit? LOL!

For the Buzz, I think the best voice is Jay’s. I really like the Rubberroom show and I hope they do more of that kind of thing. More specialty shows like that. I’ve noticed that Crystal is not on the air anymore. Fired? That’s kind of shocking considering she was there in the beginning. Maybe it’s for the best. That station needs a facelift. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

The Buzz should do more live shows and have listeners call in more. Are any of their breaks live? When are they ever going to update their website? Geez.

I am so sick and tired of the morning show guys. “Have you ever woke up in a room naked with your sister?” Ugh! Maybe if they get their ratings up they can hire their own morning show guys. That's probably easier said than done, though. Good morning show jocks are hard to come by.

They need to get listeners more involved. I remember when KJ did their bumper sticker campaign- where if they spotted a listener with the sticker on their car they get a prize. I can’t remember what station had a contest where they put a bunch of people in a car for a few days and if they got out of the car, they lost… that was cool. More games like that. 8)

I'd have to agree with you regarding Ronnie Kay. He's definitely cheesy and old school, but that's what I like about him; he's a great Top 40 jock ala 1970's AM radio! I'm not sure if his delivery would work in any other format and I'm not a fan of him talking to himself when he airs recorded phone calls with listeners, but you can't deny that the guy's got talent that he's still trying to develop. The guy's never satisfied.

I heard that the jocks on KOMA would still air their phoners live. I wonder know if that is the problem with the HD signal delay.

Thanks to everyone that posted to my question and a hearty :p to those that only looked. ;D

If you can find the time, start listening for jocks that are trying to be original and create good radio for the few that still care. Check out all shifts, including weekends and not just morning shows.

Then, in a month or so I'll ask again.
