Best Classic Rock

I am moving to Charlotte NC in 2 weeks. Where on the dial can I find the classic rock stations? and maybe some blues! Thanks!

To be more specific: turn to 99.7 for the same boring playlist that every other classic rock station has, and the "Two for Tuesday" and John Boy and Billy morning show.

Turn to 95.7 for an adventure that recalls what progressive FM was like in the 70s. It doesn't include the harder stuff and you may even hear America and Marvin Gaye.

Depending on what part of Charlotte, you can also get Rock 92 (92.3 MHz) although they technically aren't in the Charlotte Market. They syndicate the John Boy & Billy show although I used to remember "2 Guys Named Brad" at some point on 92.3.

Due to my work hours, I rarely get to tune into 92.3 real early anymore.

Steve.

92.3's morning show is "2 Guys named Chris" They had JB&B for a very short while I think in the late 90's. Signal used to be clear in Charlotte, but when 92.1 upgraded, it's more difficult especially west of I-77.

I stand corrected on JB&B then. I have been noticing 92.1 MHz lately while scanning the FM Band. I was wondering where it was from and one day I heard Morganton, NC. I never got around to looking up what their output is. However the radio in my car has great signal rejection so I can still get both 92.1 and 92.3 (I can even get 91.5 WFBK all the way up to Tyvola). Steve.

I don't recall them ever having John Boy. WVBZ 100.3 The Buzz is the affiliate in that area. WNCW's translator would keep that from being a choice in Charlotte.

92.3 carried them in the late 90s when 100.3 was still a country station.
But John Boy and Billy have a country version. 100.3 FM was their first.

Wow, if this is true, I'm really starting to forget things.

Rock 92 also had Brad Krantz who is now on WBT.

Thanks for the link. I was sure I remembered them being on Rock 92 it was just much longer than I remembered it being. But 1997 sounds right because that was the year that I moved to Charlotte. Steve.

Damn, they were outsourcing weather back then too? According to their website, Topper Shutt did the morning WX forecast during John Boy and Billy. I grew up in Washington DC and he's been at WUSA-TV since 1988.

Can Rock 101 WROQ be received in parts of Charlotte?

No. When Praise 100.9 went on the Air, originating from Indian Trail, that was the end of being able to hear the words "WROQ 101.1" in Charlotte or in Rock Hill. I've tried to hear it and the adjacent channel interference is just too severe. Steve,

I tried to pick it up today while on the way to my destination. I was able to hear bits-n-pieces of WROQ but once I hit the Interstate, I found myself ona Mexican Radio. Mexican music! Where did that come from? I looked it up and it's coming from Burlington, N.C:

''WYMY (''La Ley 101.1'' FM) is a Regional Mexican radio station in Burlington, North Carolina. It serves the Triad and Triangle areas, which includes cities such as Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville. In addition the signal goes well north of Danville, Virginia. The outlet, which is owned by Curtis Media Group, claims to have the largest FM radio signal in all of North Carolina, operating with an ERP of 100 kW. The reason for that FM radio signal claim comes from Curtis Media, due to the population covered by the station's signal.'' --- per Wikipedia

I take issue with the claim by Curtis Media. When it comes to actual signal strength, the winner is 97.3 WKBC in NC and 107.5 (forget the calls) down in SC. Steve.

What about 106.9, WMIT on top of Mount Mitchell??? At one time that signal could be heard in parts of at least 8 states, with a tower on the highest peak east of the Rockies.

Yeah there are a ton of signals stronger than 101.1. It's one of the weaker 100kW'ers just because of height.

The largest FM in North Carolina is probably 100.7 WRDU. 100kW at 600m. Only full height/full power class C in NC.

I have picked it up a few times, though I'm some distance away. This wouldn't have been possible before the radio station now called "Praise" moved away from where I live.

One time I heard "Dee Snider's House of Hair".
