In your opinion, what station or stations are the BEST country stations in the U.S.?

First off, is WSM 650 still doing classic country? That station sounded good when I DX'd it at night.
WDSY-107.9 in Pittsburgh sounds reasonably good. It added something when Jimmy Roach was hired away from Keymarket.
Otherwise, I'm not sure I'm qualified to give an answer. I just hope I gave someone food for thought.

I love WXBQ in Bristol TN because the night DJ Marcus Brooks has played my most favorite singer for me even though my most favorite isn't one of the bigger names these days, I love James Otto SO much!!! :) :) :)

God bless you and him and Marcus always!!! :) :) :)

Just tried Y108. I don't know what it is, but it ain't country.

Clear Channel owns so damn many Country stations, and they're all cookie-cutter. And, every other company in radio is trying to operate stations as cheaply as possible, so it tends to be pretty barren. Tunes & Liners. Wooo.

In the Classic Country category, once you get past the syndicated "Country Legends" and networked "Real Country" formats, it gets a little more interesting. One of Saga's stations in Champaign, Illinois (WYXY--as a complement to their current-based WIXY) is doing their own--or Saga's own--Classic Country. A little FM in Hagerstown, Maryland is doing more of a 80's-90's thing--Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Clint, Garth, Judds, etc. KKNG in Oklahoma City probably has the best ratings of any Classic Country station. They must be doing something right...

I am going to stick with my favorite country station... WCYO-FM in Richmond, Ky. Better playlist than "corporate radio" in Lexington.

WTCM in Traverse City, MI. Huge signal (covers as much or more area as B-93), live/local most dayparts, locally owned, and plays the unedited version of Toes (toes in the water, ass in the sand instead of toes in the water, toes in the sand)

WFMB in Springfield, Illinois is pretty good. Live and local 24/7, except for a few syndicated shows. Great mix of new country, recurrents, and gold.
