Best foot forward?

Lately I've been hearing, what I believe are, filler promos on KOMO and KVI. They are promos for Star.

It's the usual-a few music clips, listen to K&A, best mix, blabber, blah, yap, yap, you know.... But I find the clips are totally unfamiliar, plus they don't even sound like the hooks. The promos are bland, sound dated and borrrring!! Not to mention that they have been running ad infinitum. Sorry, but they do nothing to make me want to tune in.

Though they're doing well in PPM, you'd think more listeners are always a good thing. So why the crappy, lazy imaging?

Just asking...

Sorry, if you find those clips "totally unfamiliar" you're either 80 years old or from another planet. "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey? "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie? From one end of the demo spectrum to the other, they demonstrate their "best mix" positioning statement.

As to why they play them over and over? If you have 12-16 minutes of commercial time to fill every hour and only 4-6 minutes sold, you either run PSA's or promos. Why not promo a sister station? Especially one with a totally different format?

Yeah, perhaps they could change the music clips (I think they run 2 versions with 2 different sets of clips) but something tells me you might not have heard of those songs either. As for "crappy lazy imaging"...if PPM says it works, why "fix" it?

Somehow, I just can't see this sitting well with your typical KVI listener......

(Answering machine goes off)

"Hi, you've reached the KVI comment line, please leave your comment after the beep. Thank you..."

BEEP!

"Yeah, this is Jerry from Port Orchard....I'm a gun-lovin', red-blooded conservative American with a capital A and I don't wanna hear no hip-hoppin', gangbangin' liberal Fergie music or those damn punk rock Journey hippies on KVI! And who are those Kent & Alan guys anyway? Well I don't like 'em! They sound like them people that voted for Obama! I'm pig bitin' mad! When's Kirby Wilbur comin' back! Oh I shoulda known it....OBAMA is behind this, isn't he?!....."

The radio promos are simply the soundtrack from the Star TV ads. That's why the hooks are so short and without the video & graphics may be "totally unfamiliar" to some listeners.

I think Bongwater sort of made the point for me. I meant hearing it from the perspective of a regular KVI or KOMO listener. Someone who might not listen to Star normally. After all, that is who's attention they're trying to get, no?

The Fergie clip won't be as familiar as the Journey clip, so why not put on a popular Black Eyed Peas tune instead. Or maybe even Daughtry's Going Home for a rock tune? Still shows the mix, but now you're hearing songs that (most) everyone knows and better accentuate that variety. ok, I like that, I think I'll tune in now.

And I'm sorry, but if you're using your TV ad's audio, that does qualify as lazy! Crappy? You decide. But I think the promo could be better.

My point is I personally don't know many KVI (or KTTH) listeners under the age of 55. It's mostly just crabby old guys that listen to them.....And they probably look at Daughtry the same way KRWM looks at GG Allin ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.G._Allin ).....a KOMO promo would work better....

I'm 34 and listen to ktth and used to listen to kvi till a few months ago.

But the vast majority of their listeners as far as I know are crabby old men.......

Bong, point well taken but let's face it, KPLZ is the big dog in the Plaza and if they can grab even a single PPM from a promo on KVI and it pisses off half the KVI cume, who cares? KVI is headed to the radio recycle bin.

You have a point. But I would absolutely HATE to see a perfectly good set of classic 3 letter calls go down the toilet with this wreck........Oldies would have been better......
