Best guesses for 107.3

We shouldn't completely rule out the idea of WONE on 107.3.

I could see them moving the intellectual property to 107.3 and calling it 107.3 WONE, Ohio's One For Rock. This would free up 97.5 to do a couple different things.

97.5 Could become the markets ONLY true AC station "LITE 97.5"
97.5 Could become the markets ONLY true Oldies station
97.5 Could become the markets ONLY true Classic Hits station

Sure, it sounds crazy moving the format from one signal to another, but a few week simulcast could easily do it. Plus 107.3 puts a decent blanket over Akron and Summit/Medina/Portage counties. By keeping it generic as "Ohio's ONE for Rock" you could promote it for both Cleveland and Akron.

I don't even consider the thought of WONE moving to 107.3. Will not happen. 107.3 is still a rimshot into Akron that such a move would be a WKDD-level demotion for WONE. And competing in Cleveland against a station like WNCX with a format that will have diminishing returns in the coming years (classic rock) is not worth it in any way.

Despite all the soft AC/hot AC programmers RCRG has in their stable, I can't consider them at this point to be any indicator of what could happen to 107.3. Anything could happen.

They should go " All Beatles ". Beatles songs by the Beatles and covers of Beatles songs. No solo stuff. Have Yoko & George Martin call the morning show, play old interviews, have Paul and Ringo cut some ID's, that sort of thing. Once a year have a big NTR event like a Beatles merchandise swap meet. This would be huge. ;)

An all Beatles format would make 24/7 Christmas music sound appealing

That's funny! But you see they wouldn't have to stay " All Beatles " for long. Two, maybe three years, then they could go all Rolling Stones.

Just saw on Ohio Media Watch that the sale of WNWV has been approved by the FCC. Now, we have to see what they're going to do with the station.

Well, according to the posts here it's pretty obvious. Even Steveie Wonder can see their best bet is to go sports talk. There's plenty of old WKNR employees who have not been hired by CBS.

Anyway, doesn't matter who they put on air, just go for sports on FM! ;)

Then Mel will confer with his kid & realizing that after reading this board, he will have no other choice than to buy 107.3 and FINALLY get his sports signal on FM, thus insuring success in this market for years to come! ! ! WKNR can broadcast the Browns, WNWV can broadcast the Indians and WKNR-2 can broadcast the Cavs! ;) Akron Rubber Radio can double or triple the sale price they paid and laugh all the way to the bank!

Makes sense, as CBS will never sell to Mel, and Akron Rubber Radio has no decent format option, unless they go CCM with Sue Wilson's experience and force Salem's Fish out of the radio water.

Thats really about the only 2 things that can happen.

But all Beatles is still an option! ;D

Nice try! :D

Thanks. Think it through before you dismiss this. Drennan, Giletti, and Levine are all doing TV. They could easily work in a shift at All Sports 107.3. Heck, the radio station wouldn't even have to pay them. Just have the TV stations broker their radio air time as an advertising expense. Akron Rubber Radio would love that. Free programming.

Booms is about to self destruct and he could land there too.

Seems like a no brainer.

Since the car dealers don't care about ratings, the new owners would not have to buy Arbitron.

There's too much upside for All Sports 107.3. Buy it, strip it, flip it!

Too easy. Besides, why do they want to have to pay for an office in Elyria?

Stay tuned!

Thank you to the couple posters with the incredibly silly format suggestions. Those posts gave me a great LOL laugh.

The degree of absurdity of those comments remind me of an old 1970's expression: "I don't know what you're smoking, but, how can I get some it it?".

Well whatever, if they decide to set up shop on West Market, let me know and I'll drop my resume there, as I'm now an announcer with some experience. I can do a part time shift as I work down the street from there. Sue is aware of my writing skills and Tim has heard me announce ;D

Thank you to the couple posters....

You're welcome!

They ( my format sugestions ) are no more absurd than 1/2 that suggestions that are posted here daily. ( ala "KNR needs an FM signal to survive" etc. )

WNWV was a complete utter failure as a AAA. Gorman had them ( WNWV ) playing Bruce Springsteen bootlegs from 1974 complete with feedback. Talk about absurd.
That was absurd. They blew him out before a year expired.

My format suggestion and station sales strategies are no more"absurd" than playing 40 year old bootleg Bruce Springsteen concert recordings as content a listener today
( 2010/11 ) would care about.

So now that Akron Rubber Radio has this signal, they really don't have many options.
"Flip it, strip it, sell it" is what has been happening in radio since 1996. Where have you been?

Can you do sports talk? ;)

Yeah...Go Browns! And take the Indians and Cavs with you!

Sorry, guys. Didn't mean to be nasty. Just have been reading some suggestions that are so far out there, they're kinda funny.

WIXY guy...wish I knew who you are. There are many people on this (and other) boards using the same name I use. Hmmm.

Should be interesting, whatever happens.

How about FM Talk--WNIR style?

:D

That'll work....but only with a heavy sports lean........Les Levine, Bruce Drennon, Gilletti..........sandwiched in between main stream talk........Like what Triv did on 3WE before they made him go talk...instead of all sports talk..........
