Best guesses for 107.3

ELB must really be upset over how news of the change is getting out, and with behind-the-scenes BS getting out. Still, Ravenna deserved a better goodbye than what she was given. That only adds to the rumblings of the V environment.

One thing is for certain.

Ravenna won't get a chance to say goodbye on the air. ELB already cut her loose.

Sorry to hear. Ravenna was the only V personality doing anything different this week, at least that got to me (special music mix). I hope my post didn't cause that, though it was all over Facebook before I posted.

Bad move by ELB. Ravenna is classy, and wouldn't have done anything but said a goodbye on Friday...she wouldn't trash either owner, etc.

Also hearing that both Rocco and Brad were possibly cut loose. If not today, they definitely won't be on the air tomorrow. Mike Kessler has been a no-show since yesterday.

And, per a post on Gorman's FB page, Rocco called into the studio line during Ravenna's airshift and threw a profanity-laced tirade at her for playing a request (a 2007 practice session recording of the reformed Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll"). A request, mind you, that she was given an okay to play by management. Later that day, Rocco VT'ed his airshift.

V may be passing away tomorrow with nothing but automated music and sweepers.

Exactly why this station failed.

I would have done more than yelled, I would have fired the jock on the spot.

When the program director gave her clearance to play it beforehand, then calls and chews her out FOR playing it... that underlies a more systematic problem.

No one over there is operating with any rhyme, reason or rationality whatsoever.

Was the FB post from Ravenna or John? If not, I kind of wonder if it's true as it doesn't make sense for someone to get all worked up when the end is so close anyway.

So funny... ;D.......so sad....so true...but mostly funny! ;D

And the fired consultant is now posting a story on Facebook about the fired PD calling a fired jock? ::)
GAL.

By the way, I didn't see anyone wearing a V107.3 t-shirt throwing themselves off the I-480 bridge when their favorite disc jockey's did not get to "say good bye" on the air.

Should be interesting to watch how the new owners restore the brand name( Wave ) and attack WDOK, the king pin AC.

I caught the end of Rocco and Brad yesterday saying some kind of goodbye during their new music show that airs Wednesday nights. Then they played some wierd song that they said pretty much summed up the moment, I listened for about a minute and then flipped the channel because the song was awful. Yup Rocco, you were right, that song pretty much did sum it all up.

But boy, can't wait for Soft AC to really take Cleveland by storm. Lets hope its a nice day when they do flip, that way the Wave's target audience can roll the windows of their Lincolns and Cadillacs down and let that Michael Buble spill right out

Your hatred for everything Gorman knows no bounds. You'll never get the hint.

Funny thing is, Rubber City could very real royally bomb with a revived "Wave." If it isn't a pure NAC/SJ, they will alienate virtually the entire listener base from the previous format. And if the "Wave" branding, logo and jingle set is brought back lock, stock and barrel, few (if any) will want to listen to a station forever stereotyped as "that Kenny G/Dave Koz snoozer." So they could have shot themselves in the foot twice over. WDOK and WZAK might just romp on 107.3, and WNWV will be forced to switch a year later, but you would STILL call it "a success" over "Boom!"/"V" because you hate John Gorman.

Oh, and "OnlyOne"/"Capulet," you ALWAYS hate Craig "Trust Fund Radio" Karmizan both here and on the Cleveland.com boards. But conspicuously enough, you never attack Thom Mandel for being in the obviously same position. And Mort Mandel was even MORE successful in his line of business than Mel Karmazin, and a towering figure in area (and national) philanthropy... who's to say he HASN'T given at least SOME input to Thom (as any father would/should)? Doesn't that make RCRG "Trust Fund Radio" in your eyes as well? Huh? Doesn't it?

If you are going to engage in this class warfare bullcrap, "OnlyOne"/"Capulet," be consistent and hate on all sons of successful businessmen.

Until then, quit it. You have no credibility. Never will.

If Rubber City does no external marketing for the new "Wave," it could make "V107.3" look wildly successful in comparison. It's a gargantuan risk rolling back to programming methods that faltered nationally pre-PPM, in an era where that ratings system is universally treated as gospel.

And are there enough people in Cleveland to justify the demos for a smooth AC format? Enough to actually parse listeners away from WZAK? Or WDOK?

Thats funny. But I have to ask. Will it be a " quiet storm" ? Sorry I couln't resist. :D

When the new format suggestions were being tossed out, I always thought going after WDOK
wirh some type of AC was a viable option. Like I said it will be interesting to see how the Wave is reset and how this new station sounds. Real jazz fans always thought the old "smooth jazz " was not authentic enough for thier tastes. An AC with a smoth jazz lean sounds like what is coming.
We'll see.

In a word yes. All they need is a position on the presets. Like I said, how they do this will be interesting. They obviouusly found value in the old name, and most likely to some degree, the smooth jazz " format.

Wow. ???

Nathan, remember this is a discussion board. It's about opinion. Credibility exists in the realm
of professional journalists who write for a living. Discussion boards are playgrounds.

My post had nothing do with other sidetracking topics you posted. My post was supportive of John Baylor's comment about why the station failed. My post was also about the irony of the behavior (which someone else posted) of someone no longer employed at a station that has been sold.
That Facebook story is funny too! Nothing wrong with my opinion.
My post was satire about the fans of the old format needing to hear " on air good byes" ( like the movie FM ). Most of those listeners don't even know the station is going away!

I closed my post with a comment about how the new owners will reset the Wave and compete with WDOK.

You responded, but injecting comments about " hatred ", " class warfare ", and " forum attacks "
show little respect for another's opinion.

He probably didn't realize how wise he was when he uttered these words:

"why can't we all just get along"?

It's appropriate now, guys. IMHO.

Here is the new Facebook page of the new 'wave' : http://www.facebook.com/pages/1073-The-Wave/206481266100527
Says to join them for a Wave Christmas starting Monday, Dec. 19 and new format to launch on Jan. 4

Looks like they are going to take some time and do a proper debut.

Arbitron never tracked listening in the last two weeks of December. Smart move for Rubber Radio. Play some Christmas music, then flip. Isn't that what The Lake did?
