Funny, I didn't know Maine was in Vermont. ::)

What is your expectation for morning radio in a rural area? You're not going to get formats that play anything other than vanilla music, and there will be plenty of news, because those stations serve several communities, which all are generally overlooked by the TV stations that serve them.

Agreed. Outside of Burlington, Vt. has lots of stations in small cities/towns that can't afford to pay much for a morning show. Plus as you said, small-market radio is a breed all into itself...all the corny stuff like birthdays, clients that come in regularly and shill their business (disguised as a "feature"), swap shops, etc. all live on in these markets. Try to get rid of any of it and see what happens. OTOH, cheesy as it is, they're probably serving the community better than some slick larger market morning zoo.

I think Z-97's probably got the best formula right now in their morning show. Both Jackie and Vince *whatever his handle is" bring life to an otherwise stale radio market. They do a good job getting the listeners involved without having to give away silly prizes. They don't sound small market and the listeners seem to respond well to it.

Theres some radio 'gravitas' there. Not only does "Jackie" know the drill in Vermont for having been with Z 97 during some very active times, she also got to spend some time in Albany, and she certainly knows how to communicate to the Z 97 morning audience. DJ Vince1 (Regardless of what Pamal let him go by on-air) has a long history with Z 97 and WSYB proving not only to be effective on WSYB Sports, and also knows how to take advantage of his vast radio knowledge and turn that into being an effective co-host with Jackie.. This has proven to be a positive, and worth paying attention to.. Hopefully the Pamal local genius' will build on this momentum for Zeee 97 !
