Best Newscast in Philadelphia?

(e) None of the above.

They all suck.
They don't present news.
They don't inform the public.
They are infotainment trash dumbed down for the lowest common denominator.
They have interchangeable Kens and Barbies reading TelePrompTers or standing on street corners where nothing is happening.
Next time you come across a live shot in progress, drop the F-bomb. Then call the FCC to complain.
Sitcom re-runs are more informative (even the ones on UPN/CW57).

I would have to agree with the post above, however the not quite a Philadelphia station WFMZ actually has a real newscast, but it mainy deals with the far northern suburbs so it isn\'t really relevant.

Here is a bit of a break down:
3 KYW: Tabloid city, but what do you expect when your big anchor was the host of Access Hollywood? They also have a tendency to blow things out of scale having needless special reports, sometimes having an hour long special report at say 7PM to beat a dead horse of a story. They recently did this with the flooding telling us things that were basically a repeat of what they were reporting througout the afternoon. Larry Mendte is a joke of an anchor (he is a nice guy in person though), Alycia Lane is just eye candy and is it me or does she look like that anchor who used to be on World News Now? Pat Ciarrocchi seems to look and act like an aging prostitue. Someone should tell her she is not 25 and attractive anymore.

6 WPVI: This seems more like a very big joke where everyone is too serious, the set is over exagerated, and the music is quite frankly, extremely dated and of poor quality. The stories seem to be mostly the kind that in a newspaper would be metro section filler - car accidents, fires, etc. and all told in a sensationalistic way that makes them seem actually of the same importance as say the recent terror plot. On the weather side they only have one meteorogist, and he works weekends. Also, can some one please get Jim Garnder a new toupee, give Dave Roberts some green screen training and maybe a meteorology degree, and please give Dan Cuellar some downers since he is way too uptight.

10 WCAU: Slightly less tabloid than 3, but they go into weather over kill. \"Red mode weather\" is a joke. Then when any sort of bad weather happens they lead the newscast with it. Ok there are thunderstorms, but I don\'t need to be given indepth coverage of them. All I want from a weather forecast is something simple like what the weather forecast will be for tomorrow and the next few days, not 5 minutes of maps and charts. What is with Glenn \"Hurricane\" Schwartz? He seems more suited to some sort of kids science show than as a chief meterologist. They really should make Amy Freeze, since she has a cool weather related name, is a much better on air presence, and is quite easy on the eyes. As for anchors, Tim Lake is pathetic, Renee Chenault-Fattah should not be on air due to a major conflict of conflict of interest with her <s>corrupt</s> politician hubby, and finally there is Vince DiMentri is just awful and apparently he is a criminal who was arrested in 2001 for impersonating a federal agent (he had the charge reduced to trespassing) - something that should raise questions about how credible he is.

12 WHYY: This pathetic joke of a newscast is only on air to basically provide lip service to the fact the station is licensed to Delaware. It has almost no news and is mainly in studio interviews. Someone in Delaware really needs to challenge the license of WHYY, because they do not truly serve Delaware other than this pathetic little newscast and maybe one or two special programs. The majority of the non \"news\" local programs produced by 12 are focused on Philadelphia. Talk about serving the city of license! NJN is a much better PBS station. And Patrick Stoner is a horrible film critic.

17 WPHL: Much of the same can be said for WPHL as can be said for WCAU, since WCAU produces their newscast, and of course reminds you of this every second of the newscast with the on screen graphics. WPHL\'s old newscast actually had a pretty good news content, which is why I think nobody watched. Who wants to watch the news for news?

23 WNJS NJN News is OK I guess, but it is more stories that have a shelf life, since they replay the newscast a few times during the evening. Compared to WHYY, it is amazing.

29 WTXF: Good Day Philadelphia is awful. The talent is subpar, and it seems to be trying to be funny, with out being funny, unlike WPVI who is trying to be serious while being funny. Sue Serio needs Weight Watchers or something and George Mallet needs a personality. Jennaphr Frederick is just your typical blond anchor bimbo. The 10 PM newscast is a bit longish, tabloid like and seems to help promote the greater Fox/News Corporation political agenda. Dave Huddleston is a bit too laid back for a news anchor.

57 WPSG: The WakeUPNews is a train wreck, but the concept is a good one. Headlines, weather and traffic quickly and out the door. The old KYW 1060 morning show simulcast seemed to do this better and was most likely cheaper to produce. The talent on this morning newscast is a bit bland, so bland I can\'t even tell you their names, since they left that great an impression.

61 WWSI I don\'t speak Spanish, but I thought Telemundo stations were supposed to have newscasts.

65 WUVP I don\'t speak Spanish, but I thought Univision stations were supposed to have newscasts. At least they should do what they did when the station was on a low power staion on channel 28 - show the Univision news from New York so they have some sort of \"local news\" even if it wasn\'t local.

69 WFMZ This station serves the northern suburbs pretty well and led to 3, 6, and 10 to have a reporter up there. Unlike the rest of the stations, 69 seems to actually have newscasts with news including the only local Spanish language newscast. Something is wrong when the little suburban indy station has a better news product than any of the big network stations.

Nertz, thanks for reminding me of channel 69. They are more interested in news and fluff and the do a commendable job - especially considering their more limited resources. They follow a tradition of scrappy underdogs in journalism (UPI, Chicago's City News).

Damn I couldn't have said it better. WCAU is basically the tallest midget in this circus we call DMA 4.

Also me and a friend of mine refer to Pat as Pat Chokeonyourcoffee cause that's what her slutty outfits make you do.

Here's another vote for WFMZ. All mad props to Dicky Dean!!!

I like it because it is actual news, not fluff, not the personal editorializing done on the big 4.

Tabloid 10 is a disgrace!!!

6 is getting old and tired, but I see why they succeed (if it ain't broke...).

3 I can tolerate until the "Dan Rather Wanna-Be" Bob Scheiffer signs on. And God help them when "the family oriented" news with Katie Cour-ICK starts.

29: Love the news channel, HATE the local. Jennaphr Frederick is fugly! How did she ever get on TV?
Is Sue Serio shot in widescreen? Their only saving grace is Dorothy Krysiuk, pure eye candy. And, if I ever see that Morton Downey Jr look-alike (Steve Keely) again, it'll be too soon. Untalented, unfunny, and now clearly annoyed when he has to do the hard news pieces. Can't fly in the copter all day, Bucko.

17: Does it serve a purpose other than a promotional vehicle for Tabloid 10?

57: Yawn!!! Jesus, a test pattern would probably score higher ratings.

Worst Newscast: No contest.
WakeUPNews (or whatever they call it next month - if this mess has not been euthanized by then ).
Terrible!
Given the turn-over, it looks like even the people who work on the show can't stand it.
It's obvious this train wreck is produced by traffic computer geeks who love their maps and visuals. (Of course, given the inferior quality of their actual traffic info compared to Shadow, maps and graphics are all they have to offer.)
This must be a brokered show with the traffic people buying the time. What other explanation could there be?
In a perfect world, they'd bring back the video version of KYW Newsradio.
