Best of 2007

A little over a week before we welcome in 2008. Looking back over the past 12 months, what do you think was the best song(s) of 2007?

Kellie Pickler - I Wonder
Sarah Johns - The one in the Middle
Alan Jackson - Small Town Country Man
Trisha Yearwood - Heaven, Heartache ...

Martina McBride- Anyway
Kenny Chesney- Summertime
Sugarland- Settlin'

There's more but I'm having trouble thinking of 'em...

My memory says Settlin and Summertime were both 06 songs. Chesney's first song of 07 was Beer in Mexico.

Maybe I've been away from jocking country too long ...

Ya know, I had the sneakin' suspicion that that was the case when I posted... d'oh. It kind of gets to be a blur after a while... :-[

Guess my point was made. To me, nothing in 2007 really stood out as an amazing song and/or performance this year. It just seemed like a ho-hum year. I read recently that country album sales was down 16 per cent in 2007. Hopefully the acts will unleash some great stuff this year and 2008 will be better in sales.

I agree. Just about everything that came out in 2007 is below par in my opinion. Even George Strait's songs were less than decent, and that's not the first time that's happened either. Honestly in the last couple of years I have spent twice as more time listening to and buying country music from the 50s to the the early 90s than anything new coming out.

The worst of 2007? I'd go with:

"Find Out Who Your Friends Are" by Tracy Lawrence-At first I thought this was sung by the fourth-rate Darryl Worley. This in my opinion is Lawrence's worst song ever, a far cry from his heyday in the mid to late 90s. The melody is forgettable and the recycled lyrics are uninteresting.

"Online" by Brad Paisley-I listened to the whole thing the first time I heard it. When I heard it a second time I switched stations instantly. Very annoying.

"Suspicions" by Tim McGraw-Out of all the wonderful songs Eddie Rabbitt sang, someone felt the need to cover this one? The imitation of disco sounds used made this cover far worse than the original. The vastly overrated "Live Like You're Dying" did a number on McGraw in my opinion, and he still hasn't recovered from it.
