Best Of Burbank...hosted by Kevin Wolfe

So much of Gary's talent was taking current events and turning them into comedy. That would be totally lost with best of. How bout this.. Burbank tracking a morning show. Great current content. Do a bit or so an hour plus 2 other topical funnies. Most of the rest could be evergreen. He spends an hour a day in thought and writing. 30 mins to track a killer show. Gary. We miss your take on the world!

Sweet idea. Say on a certain Premium Choice channel? :)

Marty - It's actually a great idea and would probably work. Now, enter all of those who'd want to complain that it would be voice tracked...

I remember the Rear View program that ran for a while. I don't know. As Marty brought up, Gary's sweet spot was current events and dealing with them. Certainly some bits were timeless, but many people wouldn't make the connection with Action Mayor and Management Man, Al Waddlebody and Pat the Yes lady from Clorox.

Mr Burjank...how does dis morning find you?

Oh we miss Marge...even from baseball heaven (cough cough..that's technicolor, babe)

and this time I'm being honest wit you.

I like Party's idea...I think there is enough evergreen over the 25 or so years that could fill in the gaps....and a voicetracked show is a wonderful idea.

I do not have Facebook but maybe someone can post this on Garish's page and ask him??

Hey, Jason. Maybe I'm misreading what you've written, but please know that I'm also very much in support of Marty's idea.

Am I a tracking fan? Not if it's done poorly. But Burbank has never done something poorly.

As for using him on a PC channel? I've made it clear that I don't like PC. That's not to say that I don't love Marty and his work. I've personally never heard a radio station sound as great as GRR when Marty programmed it. You knew those guys loved radio, oldies and Cinti. It was local Cinti. It wasn't one size fits the nation.

That's probably my issue with Big now. No PC channel can ever offer radio with the locality that GRR once had. IMO, it hurts to hear Marty Thompson's incredible skill restricted by that PC format. (Full disclosure: I have to admit that my wife almost kicked me out of the car when I insisted we listen to Marty play "My Ding-a-ling," Tuesday night on Big. Don't worry, Jason. She was insisting we tune over to K-99.)

Can Gary work within a PC type format? Probably better than many but so much of Burbank was the local nature of the show. Remember the network? Burbank wasn't as good with that restriction. With some consideration, I wonder if it might be difficult for Burbank to shine in quite the same way as at the Big One.

And then...what good would Burbank be on a PC channel if that channel wasn't heard in Cinti? I think he'd fit in great with the music on something like Big Oldies. But where would CC clear that in the Cinti market?

All in all, again, a great idea from Mr. Thompson.

Ha! I'm sure the suits felt the same way as your wife on Chuck... I get a ton of requests for it and try to slip it in a couple times a year. I have no plans or agenda with Gary. Other than I miss him on the air.

It is really different and often difficult to do relevant content on PC. The stations that send custom liners each week sound spot on. Those that have a lesser attention to detail.. Not so much.

When executed with pride, I put what we are doing against anyone.

You're a class act, Marty Thompson. I wish we could have worked together.

Pro-tools: Don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of Gary. Have been since his days on CKLW, if not before.

Gary Burbank voice tracked would be better than probably two thirds of today's jocks on the air.

My point: A voice tracked show can sound live, engaging and can be entertaining.

Gary is capable of this. Why? He would take the time, just as he did when he was doing his live shows to prepare. Most of today's overworked VT'd jocks just phone it in. And that's why a good portion of today's voice tracking sounds bad. Good programming takes time to create.

I've met some programmers who used to tell me: yeah, voice track a show...you can do it in 15 minutes. Yes you can. But a show voice tracked in 15 minutes sounds like it. Let the same jock have 60 minutes of prep time or more and VT'd shows would sound immeasurably better.

Put the kind of time in with the work ethic of a Gary Burbank, and it would sound better than most of what's on the air today.

Unfortunately, there's not enough Gary Burbanks anymore...I think you might agree.

When Marty programmed 'GRR, it was awesome!
