opinion time.

best morning show

one step further...best "super" morning show, mix and match anyone from any of the shows on now in dfw, to create the best. an mvp of players if you will.

best midday

best drive time

best "night"

best not chick

best chick

best imaging

best promotionally driven station

finally, give an mvp line up, and i don't care if the formats they are on in real life don't mesh. just humor a bored idiot. it's like homecoming court, or prom court, just underpaid and less glamorous.

Best Morning Show: 1. Kidd Kraddick 2. Wake Up With The Wolf 3. Tony and Cappy

Best Mid-Day: DJ Spin (Casa)

Best Drive Time: 1. Atom Smasher 2. Stubie Doak(New to KSCS) 3. Sean Hannity

Best Night: 1. Billy The Kid 2. Jake Daniels

Best Imaging: 1. Wolf 2. KISS 3. Casa

Best Promotionally Driven Station: DUH...Casa 106.7

OK, these are simply OPINIONS and not to pander to the usual winners in these kinds of contests...so I don't want any grief about my little "feelings"...these are all folks from MY era, and I have to list more than one nominee in some categories; there's just too many to choose from, across too many years.

And I guess you meant of ALL TIME, not just current. I wouldn't have much of a list if I had to pick only from today's offerings.

best morning show: Howard Stern (KEGL, KYNG,) Labella and Rody (KZEW,) Banana Joe Montione (KTXQ,) Rose Wright and Billy Hayes (KEGL,) Hal Jay (WBAP)

one step further...best "super" morning show, mix and match anyone from any of the shows on now in dfw, to create the best. an mvp of players if you will: Tough to do that...too many egos in one room just wouldn't work

best midday: Steve Eberhart (KVIL, KLUV, et al,) Ken Barnett (KVIL,) Kevin McCarthy (KNUS, KLIF, et al)

best drive time: the late Mike Selden (KNUS, KVIL, KLIF, etc,) Larry Dixon (KVIL)

best "night": Cat Simon (KVIL,) Cuzzin' Linnie (KLIF,) Hubcap Carter (KAAM, KFJZ, KLUV et al,) Kidd Kraddick (KEGL...yes, nights like in the old days)

best not chick: What does that mean? OK, how about best NUT chick: Suzie Humphries (KVIL)...a riot!!

best chick: Chantal Westerman (KNUS,) Y-Vonne St. John (KKDA,) Lynne Haley (KVIL,) Tempie Lindsey (KZEW, KOAI)

best imaging: KVIL (1974 to about 1987)

best promotionally driven station: KLIF (1960-72,) KVIL (1974 to about 1987)

finally, give an mvp line up, and i don't care if the formats they are on in real life don't mesh. just humor a bored idiot. it's like homecoming court, or prom court, just underpaid and less glamorous: Probably would have to choose from the KVIL lineup of yore: Ron Chapman, Mike Selden, Jack Schell, Bill Gardner, Cat Simon, Larry Dixon, Lynne Haley, etc.

OK, I read the fine print...you did indeed want CURRENT offerings. I'll give it a shot.

best morning show: Hal Jay, hands down.

one step further...best "super" morning show, mix and match anyone from any of the shows on now in dfw, to create the best. an mvp of players if you will: OK, Hal Jay, mixed with a little Hal Jay, then bring in a guy named Hal Jay, and team him up with Hal Jay...and I'm not just saying this "because..." Hal's quick-witted, topical, not heavy-handed or cruel or sarcastic, and he's ageless. He sounds as good today as he did many years ago. You can't say that about the others in this market who've done mornings for 15 years or more.

best midday: Bobby Ocean, XM Channel 7 (oops, I guess you wanted LOCAL, too...) ummm...Debbie Diaz (KLUV)

best drive time: Robert Bass (KEOM) (and yeah, I'm serious...all the elements you need to get home, with no heavy handedness, just enough chatter, and no strippers calling in.)

best "night": John Summers (KLUV)

best not chick: still no clue what that means

best chick: Laura Houston (WBAP)

best imaging: KHKS (I guess)

best promotionally driven station: KHKS (I guess...I can easily make a list of who's imaging SUCKS!)

finally, give an mvp line up, and i don't care if the formats they are on in real life don't mesh. just humor a bored idiot. it's like homecoming court, or prom court, just underpaid and less glamorous: It was tough enough to make the above list.

I have to agree with Mike .There are very Slim Pickings out there and I don't mean the late actor.
Hal Jay Mornings
John Summers ,even though I don't agree with his music selection-philosophy -afternoons
Runners Up Jody Dean - Mornings, Terry Dorsey Mornings, Debbie Diaz-Midmornings

Best Overall in music rotation KEOM

Other than Everyone else falls in the "Predictable Liner reader " catagory

I don't know about categories, but I really like the Blues Shows on KNON.
Jody Dean on KLUV and the Bo and Jim show on KZPS share my morning drive attention.
Prairie Home Companion is a must-listen for me and mine.
For best all around station, I'd have to nominate WRR. Great sound, great mix of popular and obscure music, decent announcers, and a 'full service' approach to news and traffic.
As far as promotions, none have compelled me to check out any DFW stations. I guess they don't want me.

Speaking of WRR. I heard a jock one sat night around 11, 12 or 1 and this guy was incredible! Great pipes. Not a phony low slow talking voice but a very professional delivery with zip to his voice. This is what i used to hear on commercial radio 20 years ago. Articulated very well too. Why is he on at Midnight???!!????

This is really bizzare? Can we have some unbiased picks for those categories...not personal taste.

This is an opinion thread, what did you expect? Of course it's biased, just like most opinion polls.

Now Robert, you spoiled it!;) For that young man you must listen to two hours of the "Recipe File".

Best Morning Show: Ron Chapman/KVIL, Skip Murphy/KKDA-FM
Best Midday Show: Hollywood Hernandez/KKDA-FM
Best Afternoon Drive: Larry Dixon/KVIL
Best Evening Drive: Valier Smith/KVIL, Al B. Bad/KJMZ
Best Imaging: KVIL (late 70's-late 80's), KKDA-FM (late 80's-Mid 90's)

Not sure about the "Chick" comments, so I will just say my favorite female jock is Valier Smith. Gayle Lightfoot (KJMZ) was my favorite traffic personality.

Best Presentation would probably go to KLIF 1190, back in the day. KVIL (late 70's-80's) is a close 2nd and KKDA-FM (late 80's-mid 90's) would be third.

Because during the day, he is working the drive thru at Mickey D's ;D

But seriously, folks... here's an aim at unbiased reporting on DFW only, and thanks for the question, STACK...

BEST MORNING SHOW: Although the ZOO and Ron Chapman was an honorable mention for me, I would lean toward the old Stevens and Pruitt days on the real EAGLE.

BEST MIDDAY: KHVN Community Forum. Robert Ashley breaks more DFW news in this town than any reporter. No joke.

BEST DRIVE TIME: Larry Dixon was the best for a mighty long time. Honorable Mention: The Hardline... hey, sometimes a guy needs to unwind with mindless chatter.

BEST "NIGHT": The Original Quiet Storm, during the heyday of Urban AC (BUCWYL, where's my AMEN!). Although for true radio fans, Hubcap was classic!

BEST CHICK: No contest... Tempie Lindsey, the personification of real radio.

BEST IMAGING/PROMOTIONAL: KVIL owned DFW during the Ron Chapman days. No station will ever, has ever and can ever come close to that.

BEST LINE UP: Hmmmm...
> DAY: Ron Chapman, with Stevens and Pruitt as Yuk Monkeys
> LUNCH: Mix up KRLD (the News) and Community Forum (the Community)
> DRIVE: Hardline for tension release, then give the Mic to Dixon
> MIDS: I hear the thunder from here.

Next?

best morning show: kidd Kraddick, skip Murphey

one step further...best "super" morning show, mix and match anyone from any of the shows on now in dfw, to create the best. an mvp of players if you will. Kidd Kraddick

best midday Rush Limbaugh, Ticket

best drive time WBAP, Russ

best "night" Billy the Kidd

best not chick ?

best chick

best imaging KHKS/Wolf

best promotionally driven station kISS

Best A.M. show--Chapman and his crew (susie Humphreys, Sandy Hopkins, etc.) Though the show was never quite the same after Sandy passed.... Joyner -- 2A. Hal, Dick and "sam from sales"--2B

current AM -- "Donovan Miller" w/ Gordon Keith on The Ticket....

midday--- Buddy Baron on KVIL. One of the most under rated Jocks in this area..
current _ Mike Fisher, when ever and where ever he's on....

afternoon drive.... the legendary Larrry Dixon. ( Ted Davis on sports).... it got no better.
current---the Hardline... too much fun to ignore if you "get it".

nite time -- Kidd Kraddick on The Eagle in the 80's.... "Boogie check, boogie check, ooh, aah." He had the ratings and EVERY PD in town knew it..
runner up-- this one's tough. Cuzzin Lenny, Randy Galloway, Jimmy Stewart all were great listens.

current night time.---- Stars hockey game???

Ok, I'll jump on this one. I tend to be biased towards talk radio though

best morning show: Donovan Miller, The Ticket

best midday: Rush Limbaugh, Ticket

best drive time: The Wells Report, KLIF

best "night": I would tend to also say The Kidd

best chick: NO answer (wife is standing behind me)

best imaging: Wolf is decent

best promotionally driven station: KLIF (they do a lot of location remotes)
