Best of Sirius

Well this blows. They won't give me the best of Sirius by just adding $4/mo to my current year's plan. I'm halfway through a 50% off annual price. The only way I can get "best of Sirius" is if they refund me the unused portion of my current year's discounted plan and charge me full price for XM everything and best of Sirius.

That's what I would call a rip-off; they're acting as though they are a monopoly! :)....... oh that's right, I guess they are!

I wonder if anyone who paid for a 2 or 3 year subscription and is getting about a 10 - 13 percent discount, would have to pay that difference as well?
At any rate, it doesn't sound as though they are too eager to sell the "best of Sirius" package. Seems to me, they are just going through the motions as to what they promised the DOJ and FCC they would do, to get the merger approved.

drt :)

I paid for a 5 year subscription a while back and it will expire in about 6 months. I have no intention of doing anything until then for fear I'll get screwed somehow.

I think they promised us a lot more than what was delivered. I got the best of Sirius and about the only thing I listen to is the NFL football channels. They come just like Baseball and Hockey channels. I have sampled Martha Stewart's channel. I hardly listen to Howard Stern and I could care less what he says. I guess the price for the added channels goes into paying Howard Stern's contract.

What I was wondering was when they are going to get around to the a-la-cart channels they promised?

I don't have any kind of extended contract. I just pay for three months at a time and I am set. So, when I added the "Best of .....", I went with the Family Plan, which excludes Stern, Playboy, and eight very hard-core XM channels that I would never listen to any way, and it only raised my monthly payment by $2.00 ($6.00 over the three month bill). To me, that is a heck of a bargain. The entire NFL and NASCAR for $2.00? Any time, gladly. I've already gotten my money back from two weekends of football and two important Sprint Cup Championship races that I wasn't home to watch on the tube.

I don't care anything about Sirius. But if Mel lays off people (most likely XM people) and the quality suffers....well I take my money and I'm gone! I have a feeling the XM employees will suffer the most.

Ya know what? I suggest you treat the operators as you would in any other company: as a bunch of dunces who don't know what they're doing. Ask for a supervisor, threaten to cancel, and you get what you want.

I have a basic monthly, and added a second radio. The phone op said I should see something on the screen. I asked if I needed to 'reboot' the device-she said no. I didn't see anything. I asked a few times more-"Are you sure?" I rebooted. Worked fine. Dope.

If you can't get the first tier to understand, go for the second. I do this with everyone I give money to.

Sometimes you get an operator who is new and might not know what they're doing yet, and sometimes YOU'RE the dunce who doesn't know what he's doing. Treat all service personnel as dunces? That's idiotic. You could be talking to an "operator" who is a military veteran with a bachelors degree for all you know.

It is true that the first line of assistance have limited authority. I've gone over their heads on a few rare occasions when needed. But everyone should be treated with respect.

Don't be daft, Dan. Case by case basis-the situation dictates behaviour, and for the matters that the first tier doesn't budge on, perhaps the next level up will.

You're reading the intention wrong. You're not going to yell at operators and call them stupid. Treat them as if you were a person trying to communicate with someone who doesn't quite comprehend your language: Talk slow and enunciate if necessary. It helps sometimes.

More likely we're talking to a prisoner.

Sirius has an "a la carte" package for $6.99; XM calls theirs "Mostly Music" and charges $9.99 (???). Check both websites for more info.

Those ads for the Sirius package are annoying as hell, but I get a chuckle out of the Playboy Channel: have they figured out how to show boobs on the radio?

I pay for two XM radios and and they only have to mess with a couple existing XM channels before we cancel.

CORRECTION: I contacted XM. They tell me that their "a la carte" program and rates have not been set yet. They apparently had that $9.99 music package all along.

You know, there's a Scissor Sisters song called "You Can't See Tits On The Radio".....

While I don't need to see (or hear) tits on my XM, I agree that if they get rid of too many things, they can say goodbye to my $100 or so per year. #1 on my list are the diverse playlists of the 50s and 60s channels, and any specialty shows that were on there, like Moments to Remember and Pink and Black Days.

They're blue on my Starmate.

It's cold in space...

How about writing a letter and/or faxing (as opposed to email and calling) to the corporate offices (someone has the addresses and numbers) and CC programming @ Sirius. Posting here is like shouting in the wilderness, but if you lodge a complaint with the right people, you may save what you want out of the service. Where else are you gonna go? I don't count on any radio for my music, but if you do, go for it.

Not a bad suggestion. I have the feeling, though, that letters and phone calls would go unread and unanswered, respectively. But I suppose I could give it a shot.
