"Best-Ofs" Or Substitute Hosts For Week Of July 4th??

The week of July 4th is as close to a "national vacation week" as this country gets, with about half the nation's workforce on vacation that week.

I do know that the smallest average weekly TV viewing audience of the year is the week of July 4th; I suspect the same is also true of radio.

I would think that practically every nationally-syndicated talk-show host(ess) will be on vacation the week of July 4th owing both to the low listening levels that week and the large number of other people on vacation that week.

I wonder how many national talk hosts will have substitutes on the air or air "best-ofs" the week of the "4th".

Please post information on which talk show hosts will air "best-ofs" the week of July 4th-10th, and which talk hosts will have substitutes broadcasting live that week, including who will be filling-in for which host.

Maybe they could do better with a week of "worst of's" ... some of those early shows from that first month or so when the checks were bouncing, the insurance was cancelled and the cast or suits kept changing. Some these were mentioned in the HBO documentary but most of the country never got to hear them. It would be like an extended blooper reel. Of course, this would require AAR to have a sense of humour and not to take itself seriously.

AAR will do that when Rush does "the shows I forgot because I was too blasted on Oxy," or O'Reilly does a week of "Me and Loofa and the Things I Got Wrong." Seriously, most AAR hosts (Randi Rhodes in particular) are quite self-deprecating already, which is a far cry from a lot of other hosts with talent on loan from "God." Can you imagine any conservative talk show host letting it all hang out in such a documentary?

For anyone who wants to hear archived editions of the early shows, you can listen all you want at www.airamericaplace.com.

Al Franken said on Friday that he would be taking "next week" (the week we're in now) off. He didn't say "two weeks" or "a couple of weeks," so I assume he'll be back next week, although maybe not on July 4th itself. Even so, it seems strange to take any time off, just a couple of weeks after Sundance started carrying a condensed version of his show.

AAR, "Best-Of"???

An AAR "Best-Of", isn't that an oxymoron?<P ID="signature">______________

Nope. "The No-Spin Zone" and Fair and Balanced" are, though.

(SARCASM) Very funny! It is to laugh! (SARCASM)

I like what was mentioned on Al Franken's blog for Monday...

Quote: "I talked with Al's lawyer yesterday (Al's not allowed incoming calls in prison), and Floyd said Al has a good chance at getting the O'Reilly-treason charges dropped. While we wait for Al's release, we've got a great week of "Best of" shows."

The "Best of" shows aren't that bad... but I guess I am one to prefer fresh material. I thought Jerry Springer today live in Cincinatti wasn't too bad.

Mark.

Am I the only one who never listens to "best-ofs"? One of the most important things about talk radio to me is that it's CURRENT.

I'm also not a fan of guest hosts. It seems to me that they TRY to pick guest hosts who are weak so that you miss and appreciate the regular host all the more.
