Best Personality in Tri-Cities, Now or Back-In-The-Day

Charleyhorse-
I had heard that Cramer was a whiz in the prod room. I have always had a similar feeling to yours when I have been in the production room with Dave Barnett. He is an awesome personality, but the guy is a legend, a hall-of-famer when it comes to production. To say that he is a perfectionist when it comes to producing a commercial is an understatement. Unfortunately, most people outside the business don't pay a lot of attention to that aspect of radio. Even worse, there are a lot of people in the biz that don't give production people their props, either. When you are good at it, you make it look easy, and maybe that's why production skills don't get the respect of popping open the mic and doing a great bit.

I had heard alot about Cramer's production exploits. I heard he was a production whiz. Dave Barnett is also very good. I've heard alot of his spots. But don't forget Rufus Hurt. He's one of the best production people I've ever been around. And Dick Morris could also put together a heck of a spot. I wouldn't have my "Best of Show" Addy award had it not been for one of the great spots Dick put together.

Ah, yes Dick Morris and Rufus Hurt. Two greats.

Since nobody else will take a stab at my earlier request, here I go:

Best Female of the 1980's, 90's and Today - Jeri George(WJSO, WETB and now WQUT)

Best male of the 70's - Two Actually Bob Gordon (WKIN) and Rusty Curry (WFHG)

Best Male of the 80's - Two Actually Mike Padgett (HVB) and Steve Grant (WKPT - WTFM - WQUT)

Best Male of the 90's - Steve Mann (HVB)

Best Male Today - John Patrick (WQUT)

Marcus is very good.

Now for some that will NEVER make the cut:

Nicole at "HOG".

Send the Hick back to the Sticks!!!!

Mr D--
I think you may have your wish with Nicole. She hasn't been on the air in a while.

If Nicole hasn't been on, who's been doing the 10-3? I guess I could turn on the radio right now and find out but it's not worth my valuable time. Also wondering why Burke only does the 7-10pm instead of 7-12? Is this so he can get off work in time to go party?

J--
When I have tuned in (something I try to avoid, bad memories, you know?), Scott has been on (voice-tracked, from what I can tell). I have heard from more than one person that she just hasn't shown up to work, not fired, but even those people didn't know that for sure.
As for Aaron, I mean, Shawn Burke, I guess they are doing the same with him as they did with me. I did 7-10 live, but voice-tracked 10-midnight. I thought the set-up was the same with my replacement. Again, I don't know, but maybe he forgot to put those vt's in OR maybe he doesn't have to do that anymore. I hope they do because 7-midnight has been one of WRZK's strongest dayparts, historically speaking. I have had a few books that had higher numbers than middays or morning drive. I'd love to take credit for it, but it's probably the listener trend more than the jock. Who knows? Who cares?

Well the 7-10 comment, I only got from their website, I don't actually listen and I have no clue whether or not 10-12 is voicetracked. But I guess if I was a rock station up against Harley Myles, yeah I'd pretty much give up too! Just kidding there! Don't no one get their barbecued-flavored panties in a wod, ok ok just kidding again! :p Couldn't resist, who made that barbecued comment way back when anyway? As for Nicole, I don't know her, but I know people that do and I haven't heard anything but good about her, at least personality-wise. But if it's true she hasn't showed up for work, I would be curious to know why, but I'm sure she probably has a reason.

The new "hog" 7 to mid guy sounds REALLY new to radio. Where's he from?

Here's my list of top DJs in the market

Best Female-1. Jeri George
2. Candy Bryant
(Honorable mention to Kim Stone & Misty Reed)

Best Male - 1. Fred Story
2. Mike Padgett
3. Steve Mann
4. Mark Esbjerg
(Honorable mention to Gary Meadows, Marty Osborne and Dr. Don)

I know there were probably some other great DJs in the market, but these are some of the ones that I remember listening to. I never heard Charlie Chase, Carl Swann or some of the other predecessors to the jocks we know today in the Tri-Cities, although I wish I had been able to listen to them.

TWSP,

It's about time NICOLE was off of the HOG

That may give me a little more confidence in Scott, especially if he had anything to do with it.

Keep Winnie. She's OK. (see this Winnie!!!! I'm not one to hold a grudge) :-*

Let Burke go back to the pin and slop. He looks like he belongs there and has slopped more than once by the looks of that belly!!!

Burke SUCKS!!!!

Shawn Burke, aka Aaron Teffeteller, got his start in radio in 2002, as a board operator at WKPT. I hired him, as I was impressed with his initiative and go-getter attitude. He reminded me a lot of myself when I was first getting into this business. He was there until I think 2004, by which time he was working part-time in news, but left to go back to Knoxville with his now ex-wife. I am kind of afraid to say this stuff because he has already threatened me with violence for earlier comments, so I will leave out the negative stuff. Needless to say, what makes me upset about him is that I really took him under my wing to show him the little I knew about radio cause I liked the guy. I thought we were friends and all of a sudden, I might as well have been Hitler. To this day, can't figure what I did to him. When I heard he got the job, the rational side of TWSP understood. The other part...the one who holds a grudge...was more than perturbed at this turn of events. Instead of one knife in the back from HVB, I now had two. But, all things being equal, no he isn't that good on-the-air. In his defense, he is inexperienced. Could he turn into a competent jock, perhaps. Have I after 15 years, not really! So only time will tell. I say that only to show that I don't think I am this great gift to broadcasting. I am kind of like the Rudy of radio. Lots of heart, little talent...still hanging on. I have no grandiose visions of my talent, but I do think I have a good eye for it. I think I would be a heckuva PD or OM, cause I can spot talent. Hey, if anyone is looking for one...kidding.

It's obnoxiously evident that Shawn Burke or Aaron Teffeteller (real name) is new to radio.

Shawn shows no personality. Nervous, shakey, at a loss for words, stupid-boyish comments and attempting to be funny when it's better he keeps his snout shut.

I will give Burke credit where it's due --- he's the "HOG" squeel on their sweepers.....just look at his picture and tell me he doesn't have 99.9 % hog in him. Focus on the nose. OINK!! OINK!!!

And Nicole, look at her --- the little, pale white piglett !!!

What the H@#% was Scott and Widener thinking when they hired these 2.
ONKS was looking at Nicoles hair (her only pretty feature) and Widener's wife is probably related to Aaron Teffeteller ---- ooooppppssss --- Burke. No, I take that back ------ Widener is just plain STUPID and doesn't know S#@% about radio.

Don't forget Winnie - You're good Winnie - Love You Girl - :-* (ya see Winnie - I AM nice)

I have listened to you JT. Don't cut yourself. You are very talented.

I just recently discovered you are now the newsman on all the Citadel stations. And doing a bang up job may I add.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mr D. And they have taken Nicole off the website, so I guess she be gone. Wish things had worked out better than they did. I really mean that. I don't know what happened to her, but she used to be the sweetest girl. I guess things change. Like me having a good relationship with Holston Valley Broadcasting. That place used to be home. Now I feel like an exile. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy Citadel. Actually, I am really excited to be here! Good people, but I knew that when I was still at HVB. Never had a problem with em then. Didn't know anyone really well, but now I do and I am glad to be a small part of a winning team!

Mr. TWSP,

It seem there are only 2 Broadcasting Companies in this region who have their act together. Those are Bristol Broadcasting and Citadel.

Face it - WRZK had a terrific start. Twice the power of Z-Rock (WTZR) and a large following.

Yet The Z-Rock Team had more quality promotions, remotes and colorful airshows plus they staff their station 24/7/365 unlike WRZK - automated crap at night.

This should have been a "wake-up" call for RZK. Yet RZK kept relinquishing their standing, reducing staff and making stupid changes.

I would be surprised if RZK pulls a 3 in the next ratings. I predict Z-Rock to be 8-10.

Before you know it Murray Communications will have 95.9 up for sale --- probably this year.

What a bunch of "MORONS".

They had a good thing and lost it to STUPIDITY.

Shows what Widener knows - NOT DIDDLY S#*%!!!.

Thank you Jockamo...now can someone tell me what ever happened to Candy? Her and Jeri were definately my role models! I have always wondered where she went, or if she is even doing anything in radio now..

She's involved with the broadcasting department at ETSU, last I heard.
