I may have an opportunity to put a RangeMaster on top of 60' grain silo. What kind of performance should I expect at 1610 Khz?

Would a 30' wooden utility pole with 32 - 80' ground radials put out a better signal?

The last option would be on top of a two story metal roofed building grounded to a lightning protection system. The builing forms a T-shape with wings at least 500' in three directions.

If the silo panels have good electrical connections between each other, it should be an excellent ground, plus the 60' height will help greatly.

Perhaps, especially if the electrical bonding is better than that between the silo's panels.

This may be the best option of all! All I can suggest is to try each one. This building would be the easiest one to try. If you want more coverage, then try the silo. -- JasonW

I recently spoke to Keith Hamilton (rangemaster) about putting up a rangemaster on the 21th floor of a condo building here in miami. Keith stressed the importance of finding a good ground. He said alot depends on the wiring of the building or perhaps I could find some pipes that would make a good ground.

True, It is hard to predict the quality of the ground. The ground is critical to get good range. The elevated ground plane of the silo sounds good if it is effective but if it is possible you could just try them all & see which does better.
