Best Software/Hardware audio processing solution?

We are using Sound Solution 2.0 as our main processor and then feeding the audio to a stereo generator and then to the exciter. As we have no technical gurus to help us muddle through the process, we would appreciate any advice those of you may have.

Our main question has to do with how we can best achieve a clean distortion free signal that does not overmodulate.... but without purchasing a broadcast processor, scope, modulation monitor, etc. We understand that becuase the stereo generator inserts the pilot and pre-emphasis our audio sent from Sound Solution will be prone to overshoots regardless of its settings.

Now, our stereo generator has a customizable compressor built in and a non-configurable limiter factory set at 2v. Can we configure the hardware compressor on the stereo generator to take care of the final peak control or will the limiter take care of any overshoots being preset the way it is? If so, what compresssor settings would be best for this purpose? If the onboard hardware compressor/limitor won't help us in this regard, can any of you recommend a reasonably priced (~$150) limiter that will accept the MPX output of the stereo generator to take care of the overshoots?

Or, if we are totally off base in all our assumptions, please let us know. We've been drooling over the dspxmini, but it is beyond our reach.

Thanks!
