best sounding jock name......

How about Steve Jordan who used that name instead of his real name Royce Redwine, a great DJ name not used?

Wow- didn't know that. "Royce Redwine" would have been a great name for an FM rock jock in the 70s era of KSAN or similar stations- the irony being that listeners would assume it was fake.

Most guys I knew early in my career used fake names. That changed when I got to LA. We had many jocks that used their own real names like Mike Sakellarides, Ted Ziegenbusch and Mark Wallengren. I felt a little sorry for the jingle singers at JAM. They had to cram a lot of name into those jingles.

Someone mentioned Cleat Dumpster. I've met him. He's jocked over the years, but made a name for himself in LA as a sportscaster and no, that's not his real name, but it is unique.

When I was at KROY in Sacramento we had a jock names Jaw Walker, but I first heard him working as Jay Stash and later Jay Street. The Jay Street moniker I understood at the time as "J" Street in Sacramento is where all the teens would cruise on Friday and Saturday nights. When I was still in school KROY had an afternoon deejay that went by Chuck Roy, get it, Chuh-Kroy, Chuck Roy as in KROY. Later KROY got a night jock named Jeff "Mother" Robbins who was The Rocket Man at B100. Oh and Bob Castle did nights a few years earlier as The Blue Whiz.

Our competition was KNDE. They got a new PD in 1977 and re-named s all of his jocks. The morning guy was Jeff Hunter who became The headhunter. Chuck Hale did afternoons and he was renamed The Spear Chucker. Middayer Steve Clark became The Jet man, Billy Manders did nights as the Batman and Steve Moore did overnights as The Wizard. I really felt bad for them.

Bobby Ocean. Stop. Check, please.

He's had so many names I'm not sure he even knows his real name anymore. I must say I was a bit disappointed to find that Beau Weaver is not his real name, either, but it's close.

In ye olden days, KYA had Jimmy Jet, which I liked.

In even older days at KYA they had the most magnificent newscaster name I'd ever heard, Lamar Sherlock. Not only that but there's a hilarious cut of him trying to do a newscast drunk. Here's a link to that audio file, it's about 6 up from the bottom, along with a discussion about Lamar: http://www.jive95.com/kya.htm
