Best Stations in NY?

WNYC a&f -by far. Intelligent talk. No "great Americans" idiot-ideology. No commercials. Runners-up are WNYE for BBC and other NPR-PRI talk shows not carried on WNYC. WFUV for music. WQXR for Classical. And, occasionally WBAI. That last one has tremendous potential, but its internal discord cripples it.

The only commercial stations worth bothering with are WCBS-a All news. WINS -All news and WBBR for financial news and interesting capitalist perspectives. These stations are loaded-down with commercials, but if you can plow through that garbage, they still have some useful information.

With the exception of WNYC, for music you are much better-off "rolling your own". Constricted, burned out playlists, mediocre "artists" and loads of commercials are what await you with the commercial music offerings.

IMO, WFAN for sports, WCBS AM for news, WNYC AM or FM for talk. WINS does a good job however I don't like the fake teletype in the back ground
WCBS FM does a great job with the classic hits format with live djs 24/7. Q1043 is classic rock with some classic alternative and has a very stale repetitive playlist. For current music there are many options, since I'm in the older demo none of them appeal to me although I do listen to fresh 1027 occasionally.
