They also forced JJ Williams into a part-time gig, he eventually left. Their community involvement, since Clear Channel sold them, is not anywhere near what it used to be. This company acts like it is the voice of the Black Community, yet its actions and how it operates, is the total opposite. They are a "cookie-cutter" company that wants all their stations to sound alike and do the same things in every market. I travel a lot. I don't know any two cities that are exactly the same. Radio stations should be unique to their market. Majic 102 used to "sound like Houston". It is FAR from it now, they sound so homogenized. I know "The Box" sounds a little more community oriented, but still they are no where near what they used to be when CC owned them, too. And, I'm by no means defending CC. I have big issues with them, too. Radio One throws the "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It" book right out the window. They want all their stations to sound the same regardless of community and that is just wrong.
I could mention a few others gray areas with their company, too, but I don't want to go there. It is my personal beef. And, no you can't argue with their success in the market, but I still say if Majic 102 had some actually competition as in all things being equalled (signal strength, talent, etc), they'd be in trouble. If Cox wanted to, they could try it with KHPT. <P ID="signature">______________
