In your opinion, what station is doing the best job producing the best quality newscast in Providence? Is there a hot up and commer or do people still watch
WLNE News just for laughs?

Haven't been in the Providence market in over ten years....has ANYTHING changed?

Thanks,

Gary

It's very simple:

1. WJAR
2. WPRI
3. WLNE

It's always been this way, and always will be. No, I don't like it, but it's the way it is. The unfortunate passing of Doug White may have taken some numbers away from WJAR, but they're still on top. Channel 12's numbers improved during the May ratings period. If my memory serves me correctly, WPRI won the 11:00 time slot, along with one of the early evening time slots. Channel 6 isn't even a factor.

what i watch...
wpri 12 for the noon and pm newscasts, wjar for the 11,and nothing for the morning.

i cant watch wlne. ill watch boston news if wjar wpri are in sports before i wath horrible 6.

Each of the three stations have good & bad points. WJAR has without a doubt. Heritage. WPRI has made
a sincere effort in trying to remove WJAR from the top of the mountain. WLNE, now with Walter Cryan anchoring. Should really push the fact that he is there. Not only on ' The RI. News Channel' but in print as well. Which leads me to this. If he wasn't at WLNE. Would he go to WJAR? He is well known to viewers in RI. And has integrity.

My parents were always hardcore WPRI Viewers. They watched that newscast every day until they both passed away. It was definitely their favorite. On the other hand I have always been a WJAR fan.

Growing up during the 80's my favorite programming was always on Channel 10. This is also when NBC was a strong Number one in the ratings. They had a lineup that no other Network could touch. I believe that this made me partial towards Channel 10. I grew to like them and become very familiar with all the players. So to this day WJAR is still my favorite.

Channel 12 has always felt a little cold to me. To industrial, to mechanical, perhaps to high tech. Almost like Robots are running the Newscast. There was one period where I totally loved the station. It was during 1994-95. They has the coolest set with two levels, the News Anchors seemed like a family, the theme music was awsome and they even had the late great Ernie Anderson announcing. During those two years Channel 12 had a newscast that looked like it was produced in a Major market. Totally Awsome! At that time WPRI beat out WJAR as my favorite. Channel 12 was the winner in my book. Unfortunately they started making changes in the wrong direction and back to WJAR I went.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)
