Best TV Theme Song

The Monkees also benefitted greatly from Don Kirshner's Screen Gems-backed Colgems Records tie-in.

Colgems was also distributed by RCA Records, then corporate kin to NBC which aired The Monkees TV series. So it was a two-fer in that regard.

For example, artists such as Shelly Fabares ("Johnny Angel," Colpix) got massive cross-promotion on Screen Gems' "The Donna Reed Show," where she was a cast member.

I remember listening to her on a radio interview (I think on WJR in Detroit) where she said she totally didn't want to make any records, but relented when she was threatened with being kicked off Donna Reed.

Her TV brother, Paul Petersen, also wasn't too enthused about making records, from what I understand.

Well it worked out as Johnny Angel was number 1.
