Best Voice Imaging

Just a topic to throw in since listening to different streams, I do notice some people do have big market imagers on their stream i.e. Eric Edwards, Pat Garrett, Rick Party, and others like Jeff Straub, Jeffrey Hutchens. Currently for my stream I did a mashup (a.k.a. bootleg imaging) then went to Jeff Straub and now Apollo Productions. Originally I did want to invest with Pat Garrett, but at the time, he wasn't producing any imaging for internet radio stations (buyouts) according to his assistant. Regardless of which package you order, what was/is the best radio voiceover imaging that you can turn your stream into a "listener massacre?"

When I got ready to launch my station, I wanted someone who could deliver a little edge
and sound really fresh. Jason Cooper from 360 Impact Branding was it for me. He fits well
with my format and goes the extra mile to make sure that he hits the mark EVERY time.

I did on air radio for over 20 years and swore that when I decided to do this that I wanted
something that sounded awesome. It had to be good enough to be connected to a transmitter
and compete in a good sized market. Mind you, I don't have a transmitter but I think my
station sounds as good or better than the FM's in my market and Jason is an important
part of making that happen.

If you decide to use him, drop my name. Maybe it will get me a couple of freebees ;)

I've used this guy (Ron Harper) for quite some time and I'm very satisfied with his work. He has very reasonable turnaround on any project that I've given him, does excellent work and best of all, he's got reasonable rates. Be sure to tell him I sent you. I'm not sure if it will help, but it couldn't hurt.

While imaging certainly is a important component of any station, only people within the industry really are anal about it. Most people want to listen to your station for the music. The "noise" in between are more for station personnel to reassure the listener what they're listening to. If you could get a monkey to bark out the calls or brand, that would work.

Jeff Straub, IMHO is not major market sound. he's creepy to me. I have a hard time paying money for imaging for an internet station, because it's a hobby, and I really can't spend the money for that.
congrats for people who do, but anyone I've seen put prices on their website, I haven't been impressed by in what I want to do. They real too much, and have no emotion in their delivery, or is more of a "talking head" where everything they read sounds the same, almost robotic. I want more. I want someone who knows how to interpret copy and have fun, usually a voice actor not an announcer.

I do all the imaging for my station myself....that way I can direct myself on what I want and get what I want. I have a production background, so that certainly helps......I keep it simple.

I think the problem with branding an Internet station is that very few owners have much $$$ to invest into imaging up front and this their options become limited from the start... Most professional voice people are not going to get involved unless they get paid...

The trick is finding the folks who will work within the confines of an internet stations non-existent budget and still sound like a million bucks....

And of course for people with experience in the industry they can either do it themselves or call in some markers and work out a deal...

But I disagree with Snarfdude who says the imaging is not important and people don't care about the noise between their songs.... Having done some pretty bad imaging myself I will attest to the fact that some spots if done poorly will get people to just click the mouse and go elsewhere...

A consistent and familiar branding image is important as it set a tone for everything and if it appeals to you audience they will stay glued to your IP

Since there are people "driven" to create Internet streaming outlets (stations?) who know there is no money to be made..... at least for now, is it logical to assume there are people with voices out there that might be willing to do imaging just for the same kind of thrill and satisfaction that the stream operators thrive on. (And the dream that someday they, too, might be able to monetize their operation.)

Maybe what needs to happen is to have a "clearing house"... a "dating service" where streamers and voicers/imagers can meet up. Operating the clearing house would also be something of a labor-of-love in the beginning.

This is exactly why I created the RadioDomination.com site... It is meant to be a B2B site where broadcasters can meet and share resources and useful information. The site is new but with some support from the community it can and will grow into a nice free tool for us all to use...

Wow...about a year and a half ago I started this..talk about "back from the dead" but hey, now that I'm going to be Party732.com, I'm using Mitch Craig as the station's VO.

When I started my webstream over a decade ago I started with Gary Cocker who I used until one of my listeners told me he was a voice talent. I used Andy Neill with great results as well. During the last year or so I used John Harper, formerly of Star 99 in Bridgeport as well as Bob Taylor, who also once offered a product called "V.O. Guy in a Box" - an voice elements library of many, many phrases that could be used for production. Armed with a mighty handful of custom liners I was able to stretch out my promos and IDs thanks to that library CD.

I had very good luck with all of them

Things have changed. You apparently don't need pipes to be in the VO business any more. I'm shocked.

Some stations don't want the sound of a guy with pipes, and want a younger sound or something different than the guy with pipes. Whether the VO artist has pipes or not, they had better be honed in the craft. I am a guy with pipes, as you say, and I have been doing VO work for over 30 years, but if a VO artist isn't continuing to get better, then it doesn't matter whether you have "pipes" or not; one year or thirty years in the business. This is the reason some artists with pipes aren't worth a nickel. If you are a station looking for a VO artist, recommendations from others will be helpful, such as those in this thread. Then you might request a testimonial or two from the artist's clients. My two cents worth.
