BEST/WORST OF 2009

Any candidates for either. I'd be hard put out to find a "best of" since I don't see that any changes were done to benefit anyone but station owners pockets but what about "worst of". I'd go with any 2009 changes that resulted in non local programming at Clear Channel but don't recall how much of it happened this year and how much happened last year.

Worst: The complete and final destruction of what was WSNE. The use of "Premium Choice" on WSNE and B-101. The introduction of the Ralphie Radio Show to 92 PRO-FM.

Best: 'HJY retained local jocks (albiet with voicetracking) for all dayparts, and retained a full compliment of weekenders (unlike its clustermates).

Best: Chris "D" taking over 1230 AM finally. Also the short-lived format on WALE before they started this crap with the uninterrupted music on a loop. That was something different on the dial.

Worst: Peter Arpin for refusing to sell WARL/WALE. Citadel for blowing up True Oldies 790.

Nice job summing up Providence-market radio 2009 in a nutshell.

It is still tp early for this even though I brought up predictions. If You have noticed here on the front page Citadel is filing for bankruptcy. The worst may not have been seen yet or it may happen in January. The cuts we see normally in November happen to be delayed thisyear. No I do not want to see anyone out of work but they maybe being held off until after the holidays.

Best so far...... has to go to WPRO for staying live.We had to lose TRUE OLDIES to keep it a float. But unfortunatly that ship is taking on water and Ron and Paul are bailing out water faster and faster right now.

Worst.....WALE having for what seemed to be the begining of a great local talented format music and talk just to go belly up to the same ol crap we have been seeing for the past 20 years.

All the bad that's happened in 2009 (mainly on Oxford) is just the culmination of what's gradually been happening over the past few years. I shouldn't say culmination because that implies the cuts are over everywhere and the return to good radio is right around the corner, but that's not the case. While the Citadel stations really haven't done bad radio they've never really stood out in any way so cuts there don't stand out as much either. Clear Channel stations did once excel and their demise is all the more obvious. Even WSNE did have its day, maybe not as any kind of a ratings force but during the Jones and Joan/Donna Mac/Steve York days the station did sound good. I don't see any turnarounds in 2010.

The worst---Big Boy on Hot 106 and Matty in The Morning on Coast.

The Best-----N/A
