Best & Worst of CT Radio 2006

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Here's what I think is the Best & Worst of CT Radio in 2006:

Best:
1. WDRC-FM re-hiring Mike Stevens.
2. WRCH going all XMAS.
3. WTMI 1290 serving its COL (West Hartford) by carrying West Hartford High School Sports.
4. The Talk of Connecticut (aka WDRC AM, WMMW, WSNG, WWCO) for dumping Hannity in favor of local programming.
5. WZMX's continuing support of the Reggaeton Genre by keeping the Sunday Night Show on the Air.
6. Clear Channel Hiring Jack Carney.
7. Charlie Profit's CAB Radio signing a 2 year LMA with Davidson Media for WXCT 990. (Say what you want about the station, but at least this shows you the station will not flip to foreign language programming full-time again).

Worst:
1. COX Blowing up KOOL 96.7 in favor of The Coast.
2. Tom Grave's decision to leave the WATR News Team. (I still should call him to find out what's up).
3. Courtney Miller-Rayo doing the News on WATR. (Sorry Courtney, nothing against you, but I'm not gonna like anyone who replaced a personal friend).
4. COX's plans to move 96.7 to New York.
5. Clear Channel firing Steve Coates and Sky Daniels from KISS 95.7 instead of firing Courtney and Walmart Jeff.
6. POWER 104's eveolution from Hip-Hop to a station that musically sounds like a clone of the former JAMZ 910. (I really think they should've went straight up Urban AC instead of hip-hop when they flipped from Modern Rock in 2003)
7. Steve Harvey on POWER 104.
8. WTIC for dumping The Dream Doctor for Hannity.
9. WTIC for picking up Dave Ramsey (and carrying it only once a week), replacing two smaller stations that carried the show 5 days a week like they're supposed to.
10. WNPR for dumping Classical Music for Talk.

Personally, I like Courtney on Kiss 95.7. She's been around for about 10 years now. The morning show used to be pretty good with her, Ross Brittain, and Steve. ...and does anyone remember that guy Scott Papacuri they used to have? Wonder where he is these days?

Worst:
1. COX Blowing up KOOL 96.7 in favor of The Coast.

Why is Cox's blowing up a tired, 350-song-playlist oldies format in favor of a fresh, 350-song-playlist female-skewing AC format the No. 1 "worst" for the year? Neither incarnation represented great radio, just inoffensive background noise to make the morning drive/day at the office/evening drive go by a bit easier while filling the time between revenue-generating ads. And isn't that all corporate FM music radio is supposed to do these days?

Why do I think COX blowing up Kool 96.7 was a bad thing? I've always been a fan of oldies music from the 60s and 70s.

WNPR's decision is truly bad...but the classical format doesnt fly with the younger generation. They may be playing to the future on that move. Trouble is WAMC and WESU do talk as well....
Methinks there are some corporate Marty Mcgillicuddies polluting the management ranks of WNPR.

1) WCCC Bringing Sabastion Back
2) Being able to hear the "Big D" again on WDRC HD2 stream
3) Damon Scott, this guy is the voice of Connecticut Radio. Fun Entertaining, and fun at Wolfpack games


Worst
1) WCCC Bringing Sabastion Back
2) WTIC firing Bruce Stephens
3) WTIC getting rid of Bruce Williams
4) Everything Clear Channel touched in CT turned to crap in 2006
