Best/worst signals in Nashville

long ago (80's) Nashville's 105.9 could always be heard on 65 in Louisville at the
Eastern Parkway exit...

It is interesting to read your posts on the strongest stations in Nashville. From here in Charlotte, three of the strongest night time stations are 650 WSM, 700 WLW, and 1510 WLAC. Of course there are others like 750 WSB in Atlanta, as well as our own 50kw WBT, but the 3 stations mentioned in the other posts are dependably strong at night over in NC. I often listen to all 3 stations at night as they all have strong signals that seldom fade out.

Back in the 80's also, I used to regularly pick up Nashville's 105.9 and especially 107.5 in Frankfort, Ky. Lost out when 105.7 in Eminence, Ky and 107.7 in Corydon, In came on, but before then the Nashville signals were very dependable.

Growing up in the Chattanooga area (70's - 80's), 103.3 KDF was a superior signal. With some effort with a Radio Shack rooftop directional FM antenna, it was the only signal in Nashville that could penetrate over Monteagle into the terrain-laden area. I was once told that their signal reached many parts of Huntsville and showed up in some of those Arbitron books. In addition, making many trips to Owensboro, KY over the years, 103.3 outlasted all Nashville signals well north of Bowling Green, with the exception of 101.1, which is quite to the north of the metro...

On the AM side, WLAC's night signal mysteriously blanketed many parts of Chattanooga during their top 40 days in the 70's. I knew some around the city who had a preset for 1500 on their car radios. Neither WSM nor WSB (50k d/n - Atlanta) could be received here as their skywave required a greater distance from the tower; Chattanooga is within the "skip distance".

Down here just below the Bama border, I can easily get 95.5, 97.9, 99.7 (which might as well just be counted as local, it's so strong here), 102.9 (where the 102.9 translator in Huntsville doesn't reach), 103.3, 105.9 and 107.5. With an antenna, I can get those, plus 92.9, 96.3, 97.1, 98.9 Lebanon (yea, even with a local 100kw 99.1, 8 miles from my house), 102.5, 104.5 (even with a 100kw watt 104.3, 9 miles away), and even 107.9 WCVQ Ft. Campbell KY (if you count it as a Nashville signal) is a commoner down here.

I'm in Charlotte too. You left out 1530 WSAI which comes in even better than WLW!
