Hank is very good, but I liked the previous host Walter Martin when WXIR used to air the show "live" from California on Saturday nights back in the 80's. Hank is very knowledgable, but Walter had the charisma of a Rush Limbaugh IMHO. The feed had a very poor audio quality, but the fact that it was live made it more spontanious.

One other pretty cool thing...He used parts of "Autobahn" by Kraftwerk as his bumper music and instrumental beds!

WBRI used to run a spliced down half-hour with Walter Martin in the 80s (maybe WBRI is still doing that). He at least made the show move (back then, there wasn't much in the way of talk radio yet). I've tried to listen to Hank..the show just plods along. Not to say I was ever in total agreement with either.

WNTS used to run Bob Larson in the afternoons (3-5) back in the 80's and 90's. There's nothing quite like turning the dial and hearing Bob try to "cast out demons" live on a radio talk show! The most interesting part was when the demons "answered back". Far more entertaining than Dr. Dean Edell! No asperions intended on the content of these shows...just a comment on their contribution to RADIO.

Well to start with, I have a low tolerance for Hate Radio. Beck's idea of expressing himself includes such choice bits like the time he said on his show he wanted to kill Michael Moore, and went into graphic detail as to wondering how it would feel as he had his hands around his throat, choking the life out of him. It would be the equivalent of me going on the air and saying I wish Rush Limbaugh would overdose on OxyContin, then describing the play-by-play of him going into a coma and dying. If this is your idea of great radio, no wonder the business has gone straight to hell......

bobh

Here's my two cents... Instead of having a conversation with a caller that he disagrees with, Beck will either yell at the top of his lungs at them, or will insult them after he takes them off the air. He's worse than a playground bully.

Yeah, right... great radio. I'd rather hearing the purring of the engine under my hood than listen to that tripe.<P ID="signature">______________

Beck grates on my nerves. He has some good opinions, but if you have a differing opinion, he will twist you in the wind until you either change your mind, or sound like an idiot. Same goes for Michael Savage, and to some extent, Sean Hannity (when he's really passionate about the topic.)

I like Abdul, although it sounds like you are looking for national shows. For national, I would have to go for Mike and Mike on ESPN... simply put, the best sports talk show on the air.

Bob & Tom
--- come on...local, 20+ years...150+ stations...come on!

Terri Gross
--- one of, if not the, best interviewer in radio

Limbaugh
--- love him or hate him, he's an entertainer with a point of view
--- he knows how to divide the audience.
--- both sides must listen to love him more or hate him more
--- tremendous radio entertainer (forget content)
--- Rush knowd how to keep folks listening
--- he teases across breaks better than any than any good

Amos Brown (he really cares and I think he wants to make a difference.)

The rest, well, blah, blah, blah, frickin' blah!
