Beth Adams Billboards

Just started noticing billboards around Rochester for both Beth or Beth in the morning/Alex in the Afternoon. Hey, somebody's realizing that it's a real asset to have seasoned pros on your staff and you should let the public know about it. What a concept!

I also like the fact that WXXI is actually marketing their local news in such a way. Yes, there is an alternative to WHAM and they're CC-style deeply scaled back news department.

Of course, it's great that Beth is back on the radio. Sometimes, talent still prevails.

Stand by for VoR to complain about the fact that they're buying billboards.
It's about time that WXXI started promoting its local talent. Just a shame that the station never did that in years past.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I am a big fan of Beth both on a professional and personal level -meaning great to work with. She deserves all the notoriety & success that comes her way. Nice to see WXXI recognizes her talents.

I'm glad that Beth is back on the air, but I'm also happy to see that Beth and Alex are sharing some of the billboards.

Now that you've weighed in Rox, I expect the Big Eh :p will follow suit... ;)

Ha! It took me a few seconds to realize you're talking about me. OK...here's my view.

I think it's great that they have billboards. Certainly she has an audience in Rochester, and she might bring new listeners to XXI. That also means she might take away listeners from her previous employer. No problem...that's how the game is played. What they'll notice is she's doing local headlines during a nationally syndicated show.

They're not the only non-com to use outdoor advertising. When I was running one, we worked out a deal to get billboard space donated as an in-kind contribution. Don't know if that's the situation here, but that's one option available to non-profits.

It's also good that they put morning and afternoon on ONE ad and not two separate ads.

The publicity surrounding the hiring of Beth Adams will of course generate some radio listeners to WXXI: That’s a given. However I highly doubt that she will draw enough die-hard listeners from WHAM over to WXXI since WHAM’s audience tends to lean, shall we say, to the right of the political spectrum, while WXXI’s audience attracts more liberal-minded individuals.
The other point mentioned is that Ms. Adams position at WXXI is a world of difference from what she did at WHAM. Instead of co-hosting her own radio program, she will just be providing a snippet of local news and weather sandwiched in a few minutes of allotted time from a national program (Morning Edition).
Don’t get me wrong. I am glad that Beth Adams is back on the air. Like almost anyone who has ever met the lady she is truly one of the nicest people around. And, as I stated previously, hiring Beth Adams is perhaps one of the smartest moves on the part of WXXI’s management.

Be careful what you ask for, John...

Rox, I wouldn't say I "asked for" it, it was more of a prediction. Kind of like thinking The Bills will find a way to lose in the 4th quarter. I certainly don't ask it, but it happens! :(

Beth has been on for 3 weeks now; the billboards up for about the same length of time. I'm surprised it took so long for someone on this board to notice.

I thought that all of WXXI-FM's HD2 listeners would be flooding this with comments weeks ago... ;D
