Beth & Bill in jeopardy?

'Specially since T&W walked out the door yesterday, and the Gambo & Ash duo left KGME months ago. :(

Sounds like big salaried talent are gettin' the boot by the bean counters.

Voice tracking will rule the terrestrial airwaves. Sign of the bcasting times. :'(

Gambo and Ash only left because they got a better deal at Bonneville. If you believe the reports, CC management and Tim and Willy squabbled over contract length, not $$$. I guess Barry Young, Bruce Jacobs, JD Hayworth, John Jay and Rich, and Chris Parker are all on their way out to since Clear Channel won't pay anybody, right?

Beth and Bill are going to be on JEOPARDY???

Cool!

Journey and Fergie for $100, please Alex!

Air talent is looked at differently in today's corporate world of radio. It used to be that the contract of high-profile airtalent was part of the sales agreement. Now, when an company like Clear Channel is selling a huge block of radio stations, high-dollar contracts are not seen as an asset but a liability. In their world it makes sense to dump large dollar employees. If Barry or Beth and Bill's contracts were up for renewal, I'll bet they'd be let go too.

Does anyone know if Barry or Bruce mentioned Tim and Willy leaving KNIX on their shows?

Both Bruce and Barry talked about Tim and Willy. The day prior to the announcement, Bruce walked down to the KNIX studio and was on Tim and Willy's show for 5 minutes. It was pretty cool.

Don't you think B&B are looking over their shoulder what Tim & Willy are doing knowing they'll only be offered a two-year contract?

If Tim & Willy don't get a show on 97.1 or 92.3 soon, they're going to lose any momentum they've built of late.

I've never really followed the country format or its players, but the same principle applies to many in radio... people who have big gigs on big stations but wouldn't play elsewhere. T&W may be talents, but would people warm up to them the same way in San Diego? St. Louis? They certainly wouldn't be guaranteed a decade of success in any other market, and every day they wait reduces their significance in Phoenix.

Every day THEY wait?

Has someone offered them a job and they're deciding whether to take it or not?

Were they good enough that they could walk in anywhere and displace someone? Are there any jobs available right now?

Uh, don't forget, Tim & Willie BOMBED in Chicago with Disney. So bad they canned them in less than SIX months.

Then, they bombed coming back from Chi on the Young Buck thing.

T & W were handed their KNIX #'s from W. Steven.

Fact.

Our hunch is TMISU would like T&W for mornings on The Peak and tie-ins with KT'R. T&W want to stay in PHX, but the $$ are keeping this from happening. The existing payroll on Central is staggering and T&W are accustomed to paychecks with a lot of zeros! With a soft economy, even TMISU are watching expenses.

Beth and Bill are KEZ. Their salaries will never be an issue because "The Beth and Bill Show" is responsible for generating most of the revenue. The rest of the station could be run on automation and no one would notice or care. Trust me, CC, no matter how much money they want to save, will never fire the geese that lay the golden eggs. Too bad KTAR can't lure them away....

KEZ for $1000.00: Can anyone even name any of the other announcers (read:non-personalities) on KEZ?

Uh, let's see...

Maggie Brock Oops!! Gone!
Perry Damone Oops!! Gone!
Marty Manning...yup, still there. Phew!

You're right, though, no real marquee players. As good as Marty is, he is not the reason people listen to KEZ. It's Beth and Bill.

A few points.

1. I think maybe you're overestimating the Beth and Bill show. Are they really so entertaining and captivating that the rest of the station would collapse without them? I mean, kudos to them for having a successful run, but if I were to make a list of stations that can't possibly survive without their morning show, it would be blank...with KEZ about halfway down the list.

2. The rest of the station kinda already DOES run on automation and no one notices or cares, yet the ratings and revenue are still there. If the numbers dropped like a stone in the other non B&B dayparts you might have a case, but I'm pretty sure they don't.

3. I think maybe you underestimate CC's desire to risk revenue in order to cut costs. I'm fairly certain that some corporate suit has a recipe for honey-glazed roasted goose topped with golden egg that they can't wait to serve.

KEZ generates ratings and revenue not because Beth and Bill are the greatest morning show ever, but because the station as a whole is the sort of non-threatening vanilla background noise that can be played in every single office in every single business in the Valley.

Isn't it?

I thought sure I've heard this image-voiced liner a few times--
"Beth and Bill in the morning, and voicetracking alllll day."
