Beverly Hillbillies/Petticoat Junction Question

I have a question. What was the relationship between the Clampetts on the Beverly Hillbillies and the Bradleys on Petticoat Junction?? In a 1968 episode when Betty Jo's baby was born and Granny was going to Hooterville to take care of the baby, and in a conversation between Granny and Jed,Jed wanted to know who Betty Jo Bradley was and who Kate Bradley was and where Hooterville was. I know that Bea Benaderet played both Pearl Bodine and Kate Bradley, but I was wondering what relationship the Clampetts and the Bradleys and possibly the Bodines was.

The ironic thing was when Granny announced she was going to go to Petticoat Junction to help Betty Jo with the baby (and she did appear on Petticoat Junction)no one, not Jed, Ellie or Jethro knew who she was talking about or where Hooterville was.

Later the whole Clampett gang visted Hooterville

After Petticoat Junction was cancelled due to low ratings, not do the the rural axe that came the next year, Mike Minor who played Betty Jo's husband and Lori Saunders, the girl who played the second Betty Jo appeared in The Beverly Hillbillies BUT under different roles from their Hooterville characters.

I believe Frank Cady as Sam Drucker was the only Petticoat Junction character to ever appear on The Beverly Hillbillies in the same character.<P ID="signature">______________

So did Granny visit the Douglas's too?

I think they did; it was on an episode that aired just before Thanksgiving 1968 that featured the casts from all three shows.

Interestingly enough "Green Acres" returned the favor by having Ebb running away from the Douglases' farm to see Elly Mae[He had a crush on her] on "The Beverly Hillbillies" that same year.

Good point. I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out the connection between both shows. The only one that comes to mind is that both of them were the creation of Paul Henning. So maybe Henning figured it would boost ratings to have the casts of the “Hillbillies and “Petticoat Junction” together for a few episodes.

There is a correction I think that needs to be made from another poster. This person mentioned that Lori Saunders played Betty Jo. I think that’s incorrect. Wasn’t Paul Henning’s daughter the one who played Betty Jo? And Betty Jo was married to the character played by Mike Minor?
I think Lori Saunders played another one of the three daughters on Petticoat Junction.

Yes,you are right,Lori Saunders played Billie Jo Bradley on Petticoat Junction and Linda Kaye Henning and Mike Minor were married in real life,in fact a year after the characters they played on the show were married.

I vaguely remember seeing this at one time. Which series was this episode on, or did it span more than one series?

Lori played Bobbie Jo, it was probably me who got them mixed up in the first place.

LOL..... Lori played someone named Betty on The Beverly Hillbillies

Billie Jo' was name Willimenia Josephine (sp?) on the show.

Merideth MacRae is the best know of the 3 women who played Billie Jo<P ID="signature">______________

Yes it did,Granny was on Petticoat Junction in an episode which was during that time frame where she got crossways with Dr. Craig(June Lockhart).

It was a Beverly Hillbillies episode where Granny knew about Betty Jo's baby and the ensuing conversations about who Kate and Betty Jo Bradley was and where Hooterville was, etc.

A couple of side notes:

Irene Ryan was the only cast member of "The Beverly Hillbillies" to appear on "Petticoat Junction"[The episode was called "Granny, The Baby Expert"(11/2/68)].

None of the cast members of "Beverly Hillbillies" appeared on "Green Acres."

> I am about 90% certain it was The Beverly Hillbillies

Make that 100%. I remember WREG-3/Memphis showing the episode in reruns. And it["Hillbillies"] was that stations' most-watched show at 5PM weekdays in Memphis at the time(Between 1973 and 1978).

And while Granny was spending time in Hooterville, it was over at "The Beverly Hillbillies" that the Clampetts got an Italian housekeeper to fill the void[and both Jethro's heart AND stomach]. That was until Granny, fearing that the family was starving to death, high-tailed it back to California to 'save' them.

That was a funny episode and the next one as well. Jethro sent a letter to Hooterville that said that they were starving back home(before the Italian housekeeper came) and Granny got on a cropduster plane back to California and then parachuted down to the house and when Granny got there she thought that Jed and Jethro were eating boiled string(actually spaghetti). And then Jethro told Granny that he wrote that letter so that she could come back home and fix vittles but with the new housekeeper you can go back now and that's where Granny starts hitting Jethro with a loaf of french bread.
