BEWARE--SHARK ATTACK COULD HAPPEN!

I have preached this before.(Kramer from Kramer and Twitch here.) If someone signs on an aggressive AOR station in Dallas with the mentality of THE POWER PIG in Tampa, it would cause earthquake sized ripples in the market. Remember, there are VETERAN talent from KEGL that are on the beach that people know their names!

There are a couple of signals within the market that have had some MAJOR problems recently that should give that a thought. It aint rocket science, ROCK all day, and hire a sales crew that KNOWS the format. Could I stress that any harder? It will work - I said WILL WORK - and mark my word, it'll happen soon and you will see great success. I only hope that big corporate radio doesn't water it down, which is likely.

GET REAL!!!! The Eagles old format is not coming back. No one is smart enough to do it. The Bone should have changed right away, and you see that did not happen. And look at the ratings of the Bone!! Trust me Rock will not be back. The Edge is more Rock leaning now. So,if you don't like that, get out those I-Pods!!!!

Yeah, well when they were on practically no one was listening to the "names".

Wrong demo, Twitch, I mean Kramer.

You're the problem with radio today. Why is it that the majority of radio people have to slam each other? I was making a point and opinion about RADIO and you go right to that CRAP. If radio has gotten you THAT down, there must be a reason for that. Maybe you suck at it?

As far as your 'comments' on the actual post. THAT attitude is what kills the programming philosophy of AOR. The audience is NOT black tee shirt wearing losers. They are there, but people that make great money listen to AOR. The topless bar mentality comes from sales people having the wrong outlook on the station so that's all they go after. This format can thrive, but it has to get out of the penis/vagina/laugh track mentality.

This from YOU! That's all your show was about. The penis-vagina-laugh track.
So, for AOR to move forward, acts like yours need to go away.
Good. Congratulations on being out of work.

I don't necessarily agree with some of his post, but he is right. The "Howards" and the Howard clones have diluted rock radio, and the artistry is nowhere near the "art" it was a little over a decade ago and more. There is more screaming than the Beatles,Little Richard or Jim Morrison had ever done, or it's so "Nasal" sounding, you wonder if they are recording a spot for Vick's. The lyrics are negative about almost everything and anything, with FEW exceptions. The overall style is stuck in neutral and doesn't progress from one song to another.

In some cases yes,but only "some".If you have only one rock station in town,it's mediocre, stale after a few days, and there lies the other part of problem for rock radio, competition. Competition (true competition) keeps the creative level up and the energy high for compelling radio, however if the product is lousy ( and it is overall) no amount of packaging can save it.

I am going to go out on a limb here....but it just might be, and I am only guessing here....THAT THE REASON THAT THERE'S A SLUMP IS BECAUSE RADIO STATIONS ARE PLAYING STUFF THAT PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO! Call me crazy but I really do not want to hear the same old same old that stations have been shoving down our throats. I have to agree with Kramer on this one, if someone came in with an AOR station that had a fresh approach, I repeat A FRESH APPROACH, they would shake things up in the ratings.

p.s. I am a clean cut guy wiht a real job that has disposable income that likes his rock but it's lookng like sat. radio for me to get what I want to listen to.

Ive had to resort to sirius myself to hear any "real" rock radio, as the airwaves in this town have become too "polluted" with corporate clones. I,like brnb, am both clean cut and do pretty well financially. This market used to be in an innovator in radio, now its become an imitator.

There are markets where AOR really works and makes an impact. The target audience of AOR is the demo most likely to buy satellite radios, so if AOR is going to compete, it needs an over haul.

Here's a hypothesis - AOR PD's are so scared to do anything because of past troubles with protesting organizations, FCC troubles, and FCC's indecency vague lines. So instead of going out and being creative, they go back toward complacency. Maybe I am old school, but I enjoy as a listener to radio, hearing the jocks telling me about the bands, what's going on with tours, and entertaining me. Yeah, e-n-t-e-r-t-a-i-n-i-n-g me...yeah girl, I said it. Why as a male at the age of 35 am I underserved as a radio listener? It sucks. I shouldn't have to buy a damn satellite radio. I should be able to flick on 3 or 4 different stations at any moment and get my fix.

The music is out there, but since there are so few AOR stations to play it, I don't know what's going on! Stations are juke boxes now anyway, so if I hear a cool song, chances are I'll hear a sweeper after its done instead of the title and band name. Frustrating.

While I can say that some of Kramer's former posts have sounded a little egotistical and brash, exactly what did he say in this post in incur your wrath?
Here's some AbsoluteTruth for you - You can't build yourself up by tearing others down.

Perhaps Larry Ryan could help you.

Batman. you're a funny guy. Is there a comedy board somewhere you can post on?
Find it. Soon.

As far as Kramer & Twitch go, yeah, they were sophmoric at times. But you know what? They weren't stale and homogonized. And they made me laugh. A lot. And before the Eagle became stale and boring, it rocked. And it was one of the best radio stations in the country. Live with it.

Rock radio is in trouble because of ratings. And bad ratings don't necessarily mean no one is listening. Do you, Batman, and the dumbasses like you, have any clue how Arbitron works? They have a research branch that calls (on LAND LINES ONLY)prospective diary keepers. If the prospective diary keeper agrees to fill the diary out, Arbitron sends them a diary for every person in the household above 12. And who fills these out? Usually little 10 year old Debbie, because it makes her feel important. And Grandpa, because he doesn't have a damn thing to do after he finishes the crossword puzzle. Most people in the rock demo (18-49 year old males) have jobs, families, and lives. And find it hard to find time to fill out a a ten page diary for a buck. Even worse, most people in the demo aren't even given a chance to participate, because Arbitron pre-surveys using LAND LINES. How many friends between 18-34 do you have that don't use a cell phone as a primary means of contact? Arbitron says they will start pre-surveying cell phones in 2008. Until then, a significant portion of the rock audience will go unheard.

And with the attitude most broadcast companies have, rating mean money, so without ratings, the format flipping begins. Smart radio people know that ratings don't mean jack. Don't sell the numbers, sell THE IMPACT OF THE RADIO STATION. Those are the companies that have successful rock stations.

Some have meth labs, and some live in strip joints, but that is another story.

Can anyone tell me what the hell he is talking about -- the impact of the radio station?

It must be deep, because he typed it in all caps.

I prescribe an hour of KVIL, followed by Sunny, and end with KAAM.

Rock on ... rock in ... out .. whatever
