BEWITCHED, How could this have happened?

The Wide Screen version of Bewitched was horrible. In fact, it might be the worst Movie I have seen in a Theater. The Casting of the Movie was fine, however there was no real Script. At best this could have been a 'Made for TV Movie', about a remake of the TV Series. And by the way, that’s the whole Premise of the Movie.

It was indeed horrid. . . The worst part was how dumb Nicole Kidman's character was. Why couldn't she have been as intelligent and capable as the original?

The producers of "Passions" should have made this film. Yeah, it would have still sucked, but it would have done so in a more entertaining manner.

Since I haven't seen the movie, perhaps I should avoid a
comment. But Elizabeth Montgomery brought a certain dignity
to Samantha, and Agnes Moorehead was almost regal as Endora,
and I doubt if that's easy to say about many actresses today.
Meantime, from what you guys say, I think I'll save my money.

The TV series is a whole lot better and so is Tabitha with Lisa Hartman. And the movie's characters aren't even named Samantha and Darrin.

First The Honeymooners and now Bewitched. To make the perfect trifecta, add The Dukes Of Hazzard to this list as soon as it comes out. Save your money for this movie as well. Envisioning Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke makes me pale as does Willie Nelson playing Uncle Jesse and a couple of unknowns playing Bo and Luke. The original TV shows are a whole lot better.

When I first heard that this movie was being made my first thought was how can "Anyone" "Anywhere on this planet", even dream that they can come close to recreating the "Real Magic" that was done in creating, casting, and producing the orginial series? Not to mention the fact that the original stars were just
that "Original Stars" often immitated but certainly never duplicated. How can anyone improve on them? Nice try I guess!

what would have put you in a Spell!

they did show a few Scenes from the Original Series, actually close up's on a Wide Screen Monitor which took up the whole screen. Those classic Black & White Endora, Darrin, and Samantha Clips gave me chills, both as a young Boy, and as an Adult Today. For just for a second or two, it seemed these Clips were trying to communicate to the Audience, apologizing for this atrocious Movie. With the exception of Steve Carell doing Uncle Arthur, the Film has cheapened the memories of Bewitched forever.

I would never say that this film has cheapened the memories of Bewitched forever. I for one think that this joke of a film has proven finally beyond
a doubt that you should never mess with truely classic TV series. Besides
that Nicole Kidman is no Elizabeth Montgomery. Maybe that is one of the points of the movie?

Re: what would have put you in a Spell!

Well I saw the movie and it was alright, but I agree that the TV series was better. One has to wonder if some of the original cast members are turning in their graves.

Meanwhile speaking of Steve Carell, it'll be interesting to see how he will do as the new Agent 86 in the big screen version of "Get Smart" which is expected to hit theaters in 2006. And like Uncle Arthur lets hope he can pull off a fine portayal of Maxwell Smart when it comes out.

Alright? No, it was all wrong!

That is why I mentioned the 30 seconds of Clips from the Original Series. Endora looked like she was on Fire, Dick York just Smiled, and Samantha had that I told you so appearance.

Yes, and Carell has another Movie out in about a Month, saw the Trailer Yesterday. I think Steve Carell and Steven Colbert from the Daily Show are absolutely Hollywood material, yet Colbert played a non Comedic role. The duo also play the "Ambiguously Gay Duo" on Saturday Night Live

The problem is that out in La La Land they can't come up with new ideas so they retread old ones, to various degrees of sucess. It may also make the back catalouge of programmes worth more, too.

I am not going to pay $10 and invest my time to see something that is poorly adapted from a classic TV show, or in some cases a bad TV show.

Well it was only the $6 Matinee, and one day that Senior Discount will kick in, but you can't combine the two. Remember sneaking into a Movie?

My hats are off to Hollywood for literally destroying what was once a great classic from the tube to major disasters on the big screen. True that Nicole Kidman is no Elizabeth Montgomery (in whom I had a crush on as 5 year-old when it was on repeats during daytime), but the original is so much better. If you asked me, I remembered hearing something in the entertainment news while I was vacationing in New Orleans two years ago, series creator Sol Saks said that Meg Ryan would play Samantha and Jim Carrey would play Darrin. Jim has more physicality than Will Ferrell has comedic-wise. But as for the reviews that movie is not worth watching, I'll pass on that, just like I would pass on Wild Wild West. Good effort for Will Smith, but he is no Robert Conrad.
______________

I thought the exact thing while seeing Jim Carrey in the Coming Attractions before Bewitched started. What about Heather Graham as Samantha? What about this Movie never being made in the First Place??

Who should be surprised?

After all, Hollywood has already given us movie remakes of "McHale's Navy" and "My Favorite Martian" that were even stupider than the originals -- and with all the charm removed.

Considering how few of the recent big screen remakes of old TV shows have turned out decently, the odds were certainly stacked against "Bewitched" being anything other than the next in a series of Hollywood turkeys.

Well being a huge fan of Elizabeth Montgomery, you all must know what I think...

LOL...

:)

But seriously, Elizabeth's ACTING and her attitude is what made Bewitched charming. It wasn't a show about a witch. It was a story about a woman with a different background dealing with so called "normal" situations.

In many ways it was an allegory for race relations, gay rights or any other minority group.

I loved it when Darrin is explaining something to Endorra and she responds "What to you is normal it to us ASSININE." It works on SO MANY levels

Or Samantha getting mad at her relatives. She says she tries to see both side and she says "Sometimes you can try to be everything to everyone that you wind up being NOTHING."

And the real message Samantha hits home, when Darrin's friends wife takes the fur coat Samantha "Zapped up." The wife of the friend want to pay for the coat. Samantha says no. And the wife says "You can't give something away so valuable?"

Samantha looks at Darrin and says "Yes you can, especially if you have something even MORE valubable waiting for you."

The incredible acting and input by Elizabeth Montgomery made unbelielvable premise actually plausable. Plus you knew Agnes Moorehead seemed to be having a hoot playing Endorra.
______________

BEWITCHED, Smoking & Drinking

For a Family Television Show they sure consumed mass quantities of Hard Liquor and Cigarettes.

I agree 100% with you, although in all fairness cigarettes were not a big deal in the 60s.

And alcohol I think had a two fold purpose, one to calm Darren, and second to present the Stephens as kind of an affluent or more upscale household. Did you ever see Darren drink a beer? It always was a drink like scotch on the rocks. Note the use of "the rocks" to denote upper class

LOL

:)

And the witches didn't seem to be suseptible(sp?) to alcohold did they. And the tooth fairy was NOT a witch.
______________

I think they should have kept to the spirit of the original show and changed the actor playing Darrin at mid movie.
______________
