"Bewitched" the TV Series: Will it help "Bewitched" the Movie?

Okay we already seen the endless reurns[and threads on this board] of the classic sitcom "Bewitched." So now with the big screen version of the Nicole Kidman/Will Ferrell comedy of the same name hitting theaters this Friday(June 24th) one has to wonder will this adaptaion conjure up box-office magic. And so far this year the latest attempt at turning a TV Classic into a big screen remake has already resulted in one causulty so far: "The Honeymooners."

So this will be a crucial time for Sony. Lets hope that the recent marathon will spark up a lot of interest in the film.

TV Land Bewitched Marathon

I thought that Marathon was only seen in selected Markets? And TV Land is doing the same thing at 8 PM this Week. Starting soon TV Land will be showing some Movies. What happened to the once Mighty TV Land?

> I don't really think that Bewitched: The Movie will set any box office records this week as I don't think it will debut at number 1. Batman Begins will be tops. I see it in the top 5 but not number 1. I think that it will do better than The Honeymooners but I don't see it setting any box office records.

Now The Dukes Of Hazzard will be the biggest flop movie based on a TV series ever beating out the 1997 version of Leave It To Beaver in its path as the worse movie ever based on a TV show.

The movie may benefit from having Nicole Kidman & Will Ferrell. Other movie versions of TV shows (Brady Bunch, Beverly Hillbillies) didn't have a big name draw.

Advertisements I've seen for the TV series Season 1 on DVD released this week appear to indicate the episodes are in color. Have these been colorized? I thought the first two seasons were black and white.

Sony is offering "Bewitched" in both B&W and colorized versions. And yes the first 2 seasons(1964-66) were in B&W.

The Brady Bunch Movie had Shelley Long and Gary Cole(both TV stars themselves, having been on Cheers and Midnight Caller respectively) playing Carol and Mike Brady and it did well at the box office. However,A Very Brady Sequel didn't do as well.

The Beverly Hillbillies had Jim Varney as Jed,Lily Tomlin as Miss Hathaway, and Dabney Coleman as Mr. Drysdale and it also did fairly well at the box office, although all 3 of them had appeared on other TV shows.

The movies that were adapted from TV shows like The Fugitive and Mission: Impossible had Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise in them and that's why they did huge business at the box office.

The biggest franchise from a TV series turning into a movie is most definitely Star Trek. It spawned several sequels and even its later show Star Trek: The Next Generation was made into a movie and itself did huge business at the box office.

This is the first time Nicole Kidman has ever done a comedy that I know of,so we will have to see how Bewitched will do at the box office, but I have a feeling that the box office numbers will probably be less than the studios figured.

Nicole cannot even twitch her nose. She's just moving her mouth. C'mon someone could've worked with her on this. If the producers of the movie care so little about something like that, the rest of the movie probably will suffer.

I honestly think the key to Bewitched was Elizabeth Montgomery. I doubt anyone else could've pulled the role off (on TV anyway). It was her incredible acting and style that made the whole concept of Bewitched oddly believable.

I don't think Elizabeth ever won an emmy for her work did she?

She was nominated in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970 for Best Actress in a Comedy series. She lost in all of them.

Agnes Moorehead(Endora) BTW had more EMMY nods(6, from 1966 to 1971) than her cast members, but it was for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. She lost in those too.

Dick York only got one nod for Best Actor in a Comedy in 1968. He lost too.

The only ones to have won EMMYs for their work on "Bewtiched" were Marion Lorne(Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, 1968), Alice Pearce(Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, 1966) and William Asher(Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy, 1966)

What are you basing that on?

Elizabeth Montgomery was only moving her mouth too! What she did and what Nicole does are pretty much the same move!

A lot of magical things (pun intended) came together to make "Bewitched" so popular but without Elizabeth Montgomery, I can't imagine the show would have done as well. She was truly something special.

I have been watching Bewitched lately and while Elizabeth also moved her mouth her nose clearly twitches too. Nicoles does not...

I think it's a shame Elizabeth Montgomery never won. (On an off topic note, Gracie Allen never won either and that was a shame too.)<P ID="signature">______________

Sorry, I should had been more explicit. A big name draw of the caliber of Nicole Kidman, an Academy Award winner.

Yes, I would put Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise on par with Nicole Kidman.

I think the Star Trek movies benefitted by starring the original TV cast; same with the X-Files movie. I can remember The Munsters movie from the 60's but I don't know how well it did. Dark Shadows spawned the movies "House Of Dark Shadows" and "Night Of Dark Shadows," but, if I recall correctly, these were odd in that the TV cast members played different characters in the movie versions.

The Batman movies, The Addams Family, and Dennis The Menace movies were adaptations of the original published work or comic strip (and not necessarily the TV shows), weren't they?

While we're on the subject, which came first, the Flipper movie, or the TV series?
